Rules of Award

L & M Geotechnic Medal and Prize

Donated in 1997 by L & M Geotechnic Pte Ltd, a gold medal and cash prize are awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000 to the best (one) graduate in Geotechnical Engineering courses in the examination leading to the degree of either:

Master of Science (Civil Engineering) ; or
Master of Science (Geotechnical Engineering)

Subject to rule 2 below, the medal and cash prize will be awarded annually by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
The prize, which will be paid from the balance of the proceeds available after the purchase of the gold medal will be in the form of cash.

L C Lien Dental Clinic Gold Medal in Orthodontics

Donated in 1994 by L C Lien Dental Clinic, a gold medal is awarded annually from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000 to the most outstanding student in Orthodontics for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Surgery.

The medal will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners. In considering the award, the Board should take into account the student's performance in all clinical, written and laboratory assessments assigned during the course of study.
No award will be made unless the Board of Undergraduate Studies is satisfied that there is a candidate of sufficient merit.

Lady Yuen-Peng McNeice Health Promotion Medal and Prize

An expendable sum of $15,000 was donated anonymously in 2020 to Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health to establish an award in recognition of her benefactor, the late Lady Yuen-Peng McNeice, who encouraged and supported her to pursue her research passion as a doctorate student.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

Subject to rule 3 below, a gold medal and cash prize of S$1,000 will be awarded to a graduating student from Master of Public Health, Master of Science, or Doctor of Philosophy programme who has:

Obtained a good GPA; and
Best score for Health Behaviour and Communications course

In the event of there being two or more candidates of equal merit, the Board of Examiners will take into account their overall performance throughout their course of study leading to the degree.
No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
The award will be made by the Board of Graduate Studies or its nominee.
If no award is made in any year, the unutilised amount will be added to the fund.
This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

Lee Foundation Medal

Donated in 1997 by the Lee Foundation, a gold medal is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000. The award is governed by the following conditions:

Subject to rule 3 below, the medal will be awarded to the top graduating student who has obtained an Honours degree in Life Sciences in the area of concentration of Molecular and Cell Biology in the Bachelor of Science (Honours) Examination.
The medal will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
No awards will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.

Lee Foundation Medal and Prize for Chinese Studies

Established in 2001 from a surplus endowed fund of $15,000, a gold medal and cash prize will be awarded to deserving student from the Chinese Studies programme.

The award will be governed by the following conditions:

Subject to rule 4 below, a gold medal and cash prize will be awarded to the best graduate in the Doctor of Philosophy in Chinese Studies programme.
The cash prize will have a value not exceeding S$1,500, and its quantum will be subject to the availability of the distributable return from the capital sum and cost of the medal.
The award will be made by the Board of Graduate Studies or its nominee.
No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

Lee Foundation Medals in Nursing

The Lee Foundation has pledged an expendable amount of S$4 million to the Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies (ACLNS) in December 2012. The gift will be used to support student, academic and research programmes in the ALCNS. A sum of S$50,000 has been set aside for the establishment of this award. The award will be given annually and is governed by the following conditions:

Subject to rule 3 below, a gold medal will be awarded to the best graduating student in each of the following programmes:

Bachelor of Science (Nursing)
Bachelor of Science (Nursing) (Honours)
Master of Nursing

No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
The awards will be awarded by the Board of Graduate/Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners.
In the event that there being more than one candidate of equal merit, the Board of Examiners will take into consideration the performance of candidates during the year of study in addition to their research project results.
This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

Lee Foundation Prize

Donated in 1998 by the Lee Foundation, a cash prize, valued at $200, is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000. The award is governed by the following conditions:

Subject to rule 3 below, the prize is awarded to the best Master of Social Sciences student, in the Department of Sociology's research programme, with the highest GPA score, of at least 4.00.
Eligible students will be those who have completed required coursework (i.e. 4 courses) in a given year.
No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
If there are candidates of equal merit, the award will be equally divided between them.
Students with course exemptions will not be eligible for the prize.
The award will be made by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

Lee Foundation Professionalism Prize

Lee Foundation has pledged an expendable amount of S$50,000 to award the Lee Foundation Professionalism Prize. Five awards are available every academic year at S$1,000 each, to be presented to one student from each year of study. The award valued at S$1,000 will be in a form of cash. The award is governed by the following conditions:

Subject to rule 4 below, the prize shall be awarded to one student from each year of study who is selected by the Professionalism Prize Committee based on the following terms:
1. Nominee should be of good academic standing
2. No negative entries in his/her personal file
3. May call for confidential referee's report(s): the report will be checked for any significant points to support qualities of Professionalism*
Selected student nominees may be requested to provide a one page reflective report to explain their understanding of professional values and conduct that have been expressed through the specific social engagements, projects and activities that these nominees have contributed to. They may also be invited to assist the Committee in identifying referees. The Chair and Committee members will be appointed by Vice-Dean, Education.
The prize is open to all medical students. Nominations for students in Phases I to IV received after 31st March of each Academic Year will only be considered for the award in the next Academic Year. Nominations for students in Phase V must be submitted before 31st March of each Academic Year.
No award shall be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
Recipients will not be eligible for consideration for the same award in subsequent years.
The prize will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies (BUS) or its nominee.
This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

*Above all, the nominee should be an advocate for professionalism, is inspirational and a change agent.

Professional attributes entailed in medical professionalism are:
1. Honesty and Integrity;
2. Responsibility and Participation;
3. Respect and Sensitivity; and
4. Compassion and Empathy
In professional conduct:
1. That a patient’s interests came first (where applicable);
2. That the required skills and competencies have been effectively maintained;
3. Responsibility and accountability for quality, safety and morality of the care provided; and
4. Continuous development and improvement in reflective ability in self-evaluate, as well as knowledge, skills and attitudes to be effective learner or practitioner.

Lee Hin Peng Medal

An expendable sum of $15,000 was donated anonymously in 2017 to Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health to establish an award in recognition of Emeritus Professor Lee Hin Peng’s stellar achievements and contributions to public health in Singapore and the region.
The award is governed by the following conditions:

Subject to rule 4 below, the gold medal will be awarded to a graduating student from Master of Public Health, Master of Science, or Doctor of Philosophy programme who has:
1. obtained a good GPA; and
2. best score for Public Health Research Methods course
In the event of there being two or more candidates of equal merit, the Board of Examiners will take into account their overall performance throughout their course of study leading to the degree.
The prize will be made by the Board of Graduate Studies or its nominee.
No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
If no award is made in any year, the unutilised amount will be added to the fund.
This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

Lee Kip Lin Medal and Prize for Best Graduating Thesis in History and Theory of Architecture

A cash prize of S$750 and a gold medal will be awarded in each academic year to a deserving student from the Master of Architecture programme. The award is governed by the following conditions:

Subject to rule 3 below, the award will be presented to a deserving graduating student in the Master of Architecture who has attained the highest mark in Architectural Design Thesis and the theme of the Thesis must be related to History and Theory of Architecture.
The student must also obtain a minimum grade of A- in the course. In case of a tie in the course's highest mark, the student with the highest GPA will be awarded.
No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
The award will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies or its nominee.
This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

Lee Kip Lin Medal and Prize for Best Graduating Student in Department of Architecture

A cash prize of S$750 and a gold medal will be awarded in each academic year to a BA (Architecture) graduating student attaining the highest Grade Point Average (GPA) in the final semester of study. The award is governed by the following conditions:

The award will be presented to a deserving graduating student in the BA (Architecture) graduating student attaining the highest Grade Point Average (GPA) in the final semester of study.
In case of a tie in the GPA, the Board of Examiners may take into consideration the number of A+, A, A- that the student obtained throughout the duration of his/her studies.
No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
The award will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

Lee Kip Lin Medal and Prize in Architectural History Studies

A cash prize of S$750 and a gold medal will be awarded in each academic year to a BA (Architecture) graduating student attaining the highest average mark in Architectural History Studies courses. The award is governed by the following conditions:

The award will be presented to a deserving graduating student in the Bachelor of Arts (Architecture) program who has achieved the highest average mark in three Architectural History Studies courses as follows:
1. One of the following Introduction to Art and Design courses:
  - AR1221/ AR2224 Ideas and Approaches in Design or - GEK1025/ AR2225 Reading Visual Images
2. Two of the following History and Theory Courses:
  - GEK1016/ AR2226 History and Theory of Modern Architecture
  - AR2221 History and Theory of SEA Architecture
  - AR3222/ AR2222 History and Theory of Western Architecture
The student must also obtain a minimum grade of A- in all three courses. In case of a tie in the courses' highest average mark, the student with the highest GPA will be awarded.
No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
The award will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.

Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medal

The Chinese Newspapers Division of Singapore Press Holdings and Sony Systems Design International Pte Ltd jointly produced a CD-ROM on the then Senior Minister, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew in 1995. With the consent of the Mr Lee, the net proceeds from the sale of 100 gold-plated CD-ROM and 20,000 copies of the CD-ROM together, with a transit link farecard, were donated to the Universities Endowment Fund in 1996 for the purpose of instituting awards of the Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medals.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

Lee Kuan Yew Prize

Donated in 2001 by the Senior Minister, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew from the sale of his memoirs, two prizes are awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $65,758.72.
The awards are governed by the following conditions:

Subject to rule 3 below, the prizes are awarded one each to the best student for the degree of Master in Public Management and the degree of Master in Public Policy.
The prizes will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
The award winners will each receive a cash prize of $1,000 and a plaque.

Lee Kwok Hong Memorial Medal and Prize

Established in 2005, the Lee Kwok Hong Memorial Medal and Prize is in memory of the late Dr. Lee Kwok Hong for his services and contributions to the Department of Mechanical Engineering, National University of Singapore. The late Dr. Lee Kwok Hong joined the Department in 1984.
The award is funded from the proceeds of a capital sum of S$31,000 donated by colleagues and friends of Dr. Lee. The award will be made under the following conditions:

Subject to rule 4 below, a gold medal and prize will be made to a full-time student graduating with a degree of Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering), who has obtained the highest aggregate marks in the areas of dynamics and computational mechanics. The list of subjects to be aggregated for the medal and prize will be decided upon by the Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
The award will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
In the event of there being more than one candidate of equal merit, the Board of Examiners will take into consideration the performance of the candidates throughout the course of study.
No award shall be made unless the Board of Undergraduate Studies is satisfied that there is a candidate of sufficient merit.

Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy Medal for Best MPA Governance Study Project

From the donations to the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, a gold medal is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $75,000. The award is governed by the following conditions:

Subject to rule 3 below, a gold medal will be awarded to the student with the best Master in Public Administration (MPA) Governance Study Project.
The award will be made by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy Prize for Best MPA Student

From the donations to the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, a cash prize of $1,000 and a plaque are awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $75,000. The award is governed by the following conditions:

Subject to rule 4 below, a cash prize of $1,000 and a plaque, will be awarded to the best student for the degree of Master in Public Administration (MPA).
In the event of there being more than one candidate of equal merit for the award in any given academic year, the Prize will be awarded to these candidates, subject to available funds.
The award will be made by the Board of Graduate Studies or its nominee.
No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

Lee Loo Hay Memorial Prize

The Lee Loo Hay Memorial Prize was established in 2022 in memory of the late Professor Lee Loo Hay for his services and contributions to the Department of Industrial Systems Engineering and Management (ISEM), and also to commemorate his efforts as one of the pioneering founders of the Master of Science in Supply Chain Management programme. The prize is funded from the proceeds of a capital sum of S$75,000 donated by colleagues and friends of Professor Lee.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

Subject to rule 4 below, a cash prize of S$500 will be given to the top graduating student (highest GPA) in the Master of Science in Supply Chain Management programme.
The prize will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies or its nominee.
In the event of there being more than one candidate of equal merit, the Board of Examiners will take into consideration the performance of the candidates throughout the course of study.
No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

Leong Teng Kiang Memorial Prize in Mathematics

Established in 1974 by members of the Department of Mathematics in memory of Dr Leong Teng Kiang, a student and, later, a lecturer in the Department, a cash prize is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $1,000.

Subject to there being a candidate of sufficient merit, the prize will be awarded annually to the best student in Mathematics, who has obtained First Class Honours in the examination leading to the degree of B.Sc. with Honours.
The award is made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the appropriate Board of Examiners.
It will not be obligatory to the Board of Undergraduate Studies to award in any one year the whole of the income of that year or of any accumulated income.
If, in any year, there are two or more candidates meriting the award, the Board of Examiners may recommend to the Board of Undergraduate Studies the manner in which the income or accumulated income may be distributed.
This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

Leow Chia Heng Prize

Arising from the settlement of the estate of the late Mr Leow Chia Heng, the High Court of the State of Singapore ordered that the balance of a fund intended for charitable purposes be paid to the National University of Singapore to provide an annual cash prize to be called the 'Leow Chia Heng Prize' to be awarded by the University to undergraduates or graduates of the Faculty of Law.

Subject to rules 2 and 5 below, the prize shall be awarded each year by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Faculty of Law to the candidate gaining first place in the Final Examination for the degree of LL.B.
If, in any year, in the opinion of the Board of Undergraduate Studies, there is no candidate of sufficient merit, no award shall be made.
It shall not be obligatory to the Board of Undergraduate Studies to award in any one year the whole of the income of that year or of any accumulated income.
If, in any year, there are two or more suitable candidates meriting the award in the same class, it shall be open to the Faculty of Law to recommend to the Board of Undergraduate Studies that the income or accumulated income available be distributed wholly or in part to such candidates.
A recommendation for the award of the prize shall be made by the Faculty at the meeting at which the report of the Board of Examiners for the Final LL.B. Examination is received.

Leslie Wong Memorial Medal

Established in 1970 in memory of the late Professor Leslie G. J. Wong, former Visiting Professor of Business Administration, the award is given annually from the proceeds of the Leslie Wong Memorial Fund.

Subject to rule 3 below, the gold medal is awarded to the best student awarded Honours (Highest Distinction) in Business Administration in the NUS Business School.
The medal will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

Leslie Wong Prizes in Business Administration

Instituted in 1970, the Leslie Wong Prize in Business Administration was initially valued at $50. This was awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $30,000 which was donated by friends of the late Professor Leslie G. J. Wong. In 1993, the Faculty of Business Administration donated $10,000 specifically to increase the value of the prize to $250.

Subject to rule 2 below, the prize is awarded annually by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners to a student in the School of Business who has passed the Bachelor of Business Administration III Examination and who is first in general proficiency throughout the complete course of study.
No award will be made unless the Board of Undergraduate Studies is satisfied that there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
The prize will be in the form of cash.

Libby Tin Peh Medal

In 2012, Professor Wilfred Peh and his siblings donated a sum of $15,000 to award a gold medal annually.
Professor Wilfred Peh has been a Clinical Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine since 2001. He has been teaching radiology to the Master of Nursing (MN) programme at NUS since its inception in 2003. Professor Peh and his siblings have previously contributed to the "Peh Eng Teck Memorial Medal and Prize", in memory of their late father, to be awarded to the top and deserving MMed (Diagnostic Radiology) candidate.
The award is governed by the following conditions:

Subject to rule 3 below, the award will be given to the best graduating student of the Master of Nursing programme.
Each award consists of a gold medal.
No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
The award will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Selection Committee.
In the event that there being more than one candidate of equal merit, the Board of Examiners will take into consideration the performance of candidates during the period of candidature in addition to their examination results.
This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

Lijen Industrial Development Medals

Donated in 1985 by Lijen Industrial Development Pte Ltd, the medals are awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $10,000. In 1998 the award was extended to deserving students from the School of Computing when it was formed.

Subject to there being candidates of sufficient merit, the medals will be awarded to the honours year students with the best academic exercises/projects in each of the disciplines in the Faculty of Science and to deserving students in Bachelor of Computing (Honours) - Computer Science programme.
The medals will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners for the Honours Examinations in the Faculty of Science and the School of Computing.
The number of medals available for award in any one year will depend on the proceeds from the capital sum. If in any year, the number of awards should be insufficient for distribution amongst the disciplines in the Faculty, the Board of Examiners will select the most deserving candidates after taking into consideration their performance in the Honours examination.
This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

Lilly Medal and Prize in Pharmacology

In 2015, Lilly-NUS Centre for Clinical Pharmacology Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of Eli Lilly and Company, had donated an expendable sum of S$10,000 to establish this award for students who have excelled in Pharmacology studies and training in NUS annually from Academic Year 2015/16.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

Subject to rule 4 below, a cash prize and a medal will be awarded to each of the following:

S$250 cash prize and a gold medal to one Nursing undergraduate student who has obtained a grade of A- and above for 3 Pharmacology courses.
S$250 cash prize and a gold medal to one PhD student with the Best PhD Research Thesis in Pharmacology based on consistently high recommendation and opinion by all thesis examiners, and if necessary, additional criteria may apply, including GPA of 4.00 and above, quality and quantity of publications, conference presentation and awards. The PhD award will be based on the recommendation of a Selection Committee comprising a panel of 3 Academic Staff members from the Pharmacology Department.
S$200 cash prize and a gold medal to one Life Science undergraduate student who is the 2nd best student in Pharmacology based on performance in 3 Pharmacology courses and Final Year Project and has attained the 2nd highest score in the whole cohort with a grade of A- and above.

Each prize will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies or Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners or Selection Committee from the Pharmacology Department.
No award shall be made if there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
If no award is made at any given year, the funds available will be carried forward to support awards in subsequent years.
This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

Lim Boon Keng Prize

Donated by the great-grandchildren of the late Dr. Lim Boon Keng, a prominent physician and early supporter of the Medical School, a cash prize is to be awarded from the proceeds from a capital sum of $30,000. The award will be governed by the following conditions:

Subject to rule 3 below, a cash prize of $1000, will be awarded to the best student in Medicine in the Final Professional M.B.,B.S. Examination.
The award will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

Lim Chin Kuan Prize

Donated in 2003, by Ms Valerie Lim and Dr Ann Lee in memory of their father, Mr Lim Chin Kuan (1922 -1982), a book prize, Lim Chin Kuan Prize, will be awarded from the capital sum of S$15,000 to the best student of each intake in the MSc (Coursework) in Chemistry course. The late Mr Lim Chin Kuan was the first Master of Science graduate in Chemistry from the University of Malaya (Singapore) in 1950, who became an outstanding Analytical Chemist in this region. From 2019/2020, a cash prize will be awarded instead.

Subject to rule 4 below, a cash prize will be awarded to the best graduating Master of Science in Chemical Sciences by Coursework student who has successfully completed and fulfilled the course requirements. As students can graduate at the end of both semesters, up to two awards may be made in the same year.
Each award will be in the form of cash, valued at S$500.
The cash prize will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations specifically, Statue 7 Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulations.

Lim Chong Yah Gold Medal

A sum of $16,000 was donated anonymously in 1994 to the Department of Economics and Statistics to establish the Lim Chong Yah Book Prize for award to the best candidate completing the course for the degree of Master of Social Sciences in Applied Economics. In 1997, the book prize was converted to the Lim Chong Yah Gold Medal.

The award of the medal will be made by Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit. If in any year there are, in the opinion of the Board of Graduate Studies, two or more candidates of equal merit, the Board of Graduate Studies may award such additional prizes as may be appropriate, subject to funds being available for this purpose.

Lim Siew Foong Nursing Excellence Prize

Dr Loh Keh Chuan has made an endowed gift of S$100,000 to the Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, towards a Prize in support of nursing excellence.
The award is governed by the following conditions:

Subject to rule 2 below, a cash prize of S$2,500 will be awarded annually to the best graduating student from the 3-year Part-Time Bachelor of Science (Nursing Practice) Degree in NUS who best demonstrates qualities of strength of character, empathy, compassion and dedication in the nursing profession through the review of:
- A reflective report submitted by the student for evaluation by the Programme Director; and,
- Evidence and clear examples submitted by the hospital where the student works.
No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
The prize will awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies or its nominee.
This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

Lim Soo Peng Prizes

Two prizes, valued at $50 each, have been donated by Mr Lim Soo Peng for award on the results of the Science II Examination for the degree of Bachelor of Science.

The prizes are awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners:

one to the best student in Mathematics; and
one to the best student in the Computer Science stream.

No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
The prize will be in the form of cash.

Lim Tay Boh Memorial Medal

Established in 1968 in memory of the late professor Lim Tay Boh, Vice‐Chancellor and Professor of Economics, the medal is awarded annually from the proceeds of the Lim Tay Boh Memorial Fund to the best graduate with the highest Grade Point Average (GPA) in the Quantitative Economics Specialisation (Economics) in the Honours examination for the degree of Bachelor of Social Sciences.

Subject to Rule 3 below, a gold medal will be awarded to best graduate with the highest Grade Point Average (GPA) in the Quantitative Economics Specialisation (Economics) in the Honours examination for the degree of Bachelor of Social Sciences. In the event of a tie, the overall performance in the courses specific to the Quantitative Economics Specialisation (Economics) will be considered.
The medal will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulations.

Loh Fun Chee Medal in Clinical Dentistry

Donated in 1997 by Dr Loh Fun Chee, a gold medal is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000. In 2003, it was agreed that a cash prize may be awarded.
The award is governed by the following conditions:

Subject to rule 4 below, the medal will be awarded to the best student with distinction in Clinical Dentistry in the Final Professional Bachelor of Dental Surgery Examination.
In the event that no student is eligible for a medal award a cash prize may be awarded to the student who obtains the highest mark and an 'A' grade for the subject.
The medal is awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Boards of Examiners.
No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.

Louis Chen Hsiao Yun Best Dissertation Prize

Donated in 2015 by the Department of Mathematics, a cash prize of $500 Singapore Dollars will be awarded from an expendable sum of $50,000.
The award is governed by the following conditions:

Subject to rule 3 below, the award will be given to the student with the best PhD thesis in the field of mathematics or applied mathematics.
Each award consists of a $500 Singapore Dollars cash prize.
No award shall be made if there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
The prize will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Selection Committee from the Department of Mathematics.
If there are no awards presented at any given year, the unutilised amount will be added back to the fund.
This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

LSA-AT Nuevo Economics Medal and Prize

The LSA-AT Nuevo Economics Medal and Prize is awarded from an endowed gift of S$120,000 by Mr Teo Soon Chye, Anthony, Dr Lee Soo Ann and Mr Ong Tiak Beng. Through this gift, they hope to inspire more students to take up the Double Degree Programme (Economics and Business) and Double Degree Programme (Economics and Engineering). The proceeds of the capital sum of S$120,000 will be used to award four medals and cash prizes annually.
