NUS Alumni Overseas Chapter Jakarta x NUS Sing Along Club Reunion

From 30 August to 4 September 2023, the NUS Alumni Sing-Along group graced Jakarta with their melodious presence. Led by the charismatic Joanna Loo, and with Jenny Kwa's assistance, they shared their love for music in our vibrant city.

During their stay, the group attended a live talent search concert at Indosiar, an Indonesian television station, on August 30th, 2023. This experience showcased the universal appeal of music, transcending boundaries.

On September 1st, we hosted a heart-warming reunion at Al Jazeera Signature Restaurant in Jakarta, with 46 NUS Alumni Overseas Chapter Jakarta alumni and 32 members from the NUS Alumni Sing-Along Group, totalling 78 alumni. Amidst Middle Eastern cuisine, laughter, and karaoke, we celebrated the birthday of Pek Choo, a visiting alumna from the Sing-Along Group, and were joined by Agustin from NUS BLOCK71 Indonesia.

The following day, the Sing-Along Group also dedicated their time to community service with ISCO, the Indonesian Street Children Association.

We deeply appreciate the support of the NUS OAR team, who facilitated this memorable event and connected the NUS Alumni Sing-Along Group with the NUS Alumni Overseas Chapter Jakarta, enhancing our alumni network. Their sponsorship, NUS OAR tote bags, and banner were invaluable contributions.

NUS Alumni Overseas Chapter Manila Joins the 58th Singapore National Day in Manila

The NUS Alumni Overseas Chapter Manila attended a reception hosted by the Singapore Embassy in Manila at the Fairmont Makati to celebrate Singapore’s 58th National Day.

Around 40 alumni from various faculties and schools were present in this year’s celebration, which had the theme “Onward as One”. There were many fresh faces from the chapter attending this event for the very first time, including several young alumni who recently graduated from NUS.

In her speech, Ambassador of Singapore to the Philippines Constance See Sin Yuan (Arts and Social Sciences '97) highlighted the deep links between Singapore and the Philippines in many areas and mentioned that in 2024, the countries will celebrate 55 years of diplomatic partnership. In response, Department of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations and ASEAN Affairs Maria Theresa Lazaro noted the warm friendship between the two countries and conveyed the warmest congratulations of the Philippines to Singapore.

More than 800 guests, including government officials, the Diplomatic and Consular Corps, the business community, and Singaporeans in Manila filled the ballroom of Fairmont Makati to capacity. A buffet-style dinner featuring popular Singaporean food was served after the short programme.

NUSC Alumni Family Day 2023

Catching up with friends, reliving unforgettable stories, and creating new memories with loved ones – these were just some of the things that our alumni of many cohorts, including the Talent Development Programme (TDP), the Core Curriculum Programme (CCP) and the University Scholars Programme (USP), got up to at the NUS College (NUSC) Alumni Family Day on Saturday, 26 August.

It was an afternoon to remember at Cinnamon College, with great food (including exquisite coffee and tea prepared by the NUSCaff student team) and fun activities for the family! We also took the time to celebrate our alumni from milestone years (Class of ’03, ’08, ’13, and ’18) with a cake-cutting to commemorate the momentous occasion.

A panel discussion with members of our Deanery, Prof Simon Chesterman, Prof Daniel PS Goh, Prof Hui-Chieh Loy and Prof Quek Su Ying, was held, moderated by Benjamin, Ming-An Lee (USP ’06), to discuss our vision and plans for NUSC, including details on the selection of courses for our student population and the role our alumni can play in NUSC’s future.

Witnessing the camaraderie and sense of unity that permeated throughout the event was incredibly heart-warming. It was a wonderful time of celebrating friendship, commemorating milestones, and saluting the legacy and growth of our community. We look forward to forging closer bonds within our growing alumni community!
