Reunion lunch for EMBA Intake 29

Congratulations, EMBA Intake 29! This batch was the first cohort from NUS Business School to graduate during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite a three-month delay to the start of their 15-month journey, the group soldiered on amid a volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous and hyperconnected (VUCAH) world. The class tackled relentless disruptions, embraced changes in the world order, integrated across boundaries, showed their mettle and beat the odds to finish their course. Their grit, resilience, optimism and steadfast commitment to learning got them through the most trying circumstances.

On 9 July, after the Commencement ceremony, some members of the class – comprising talented individuals across 16 nationalities – gathered for a jubilant reunion lunch at University Cultural Centre to celebrate their togetherness, relive precious memories, exchange updates and made vows of long lasting friendships. Bravo NUS! Bravo Intake 29!

NUS Alumni Manila Chapter Joins Bukit Timah Homecoming 2022

On 2 July 2022, NUS Alumni Manila Chapter joined the Bukit Timah Homecoming held at the Upper Quadrangle of the University’s Bukit Timah Campus. Representing the Chapter at the event were Chairperson, Mr Richard Tan (Public Policy ’12), and Vice Chairperson, Mr Nestor Precioso (Science ’06). Organised by NUS Office of Alumni Relations (OAR) and co-hosted by the Faculty of Law and Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, Bukit Timah Homecoming 2022 returned as a physical event for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. NUS Chancellor, President Halimah Yacob (Law ’78) graced the event as Guest-of-Honour.

Themed “Disco Fiesta”, alumni dressed to the nines to match the evening’s “Sparkle and Shine” dress code. Alumni were treated to a sumptuous four-course “Modern Singaporean” dinner and engaging performances from the NUS community, including a fashion show and catwalk from Senior Alumni. The event saw close to 800 alumni returning to campus for the occasion, with Safe Management Measures implemented. During the event, Chapter Chairperson, Mr Tan, and Chapter Vice Chairperson, Mr Precioso, exchanged pleasantries with NUS President, Prof Tan, Professor Kishore Mahbubani (Arts and Social Sciences ’71), and the OAR team, reaffirming the Chapter’s commitment to actively engage NUS alumni in Manila through networking and community involvement initiatives.

Philosophy Party 2022
On 1 July, NUS Philosophy Department held its first Philosophy Party since the COVID-19 pandemic struck. The party provided a chance for over 90 faculty members, recent graduates from the Classes of 2019, 2020 and 2021, and alumni to connect over dinner, games and great conversations.

Other than the Philosophy Party, the Department also organised another dinner on 1 August to thank alumni for their contribution back to their alma mater. As part of the PH4550 module on Internship: Philosophy for Teaching, the Department also partners pre-tertiary institutions in Singapore to provide undergraduates a teaching internship experience. Many stakeholders are Philosophy alumni, who continue to provide invaluable guidance and mentorship to undergraduates.
