Temasek Hall Past vs Present 22/23

10 December

On 10 December 2022, 100 Temasek Hall (TH) alumni and 100 current TH residents gathered to play in the Past versus Present (PvP) event. The sports played and the results of the matches are as summarised below.

Although the basketball players were affected by the rain, both teams gamely headed down to the nearby sheltered community centre at West Coast for a half-court game. Supporters also enjoyed the exciting matches between the floorball girls, where their game ended in a draw, as well as the handball guys where the present team lost by one point.

It was heart-warming to see all teams having fun and playing their hearts out before bonding over the scrumptious bombolones and muffins after the matches. Overall, the event was greatly successful, considering that the last two years of PvP did not take place due to COVID-19. TH certainly looks forward to including more sports and reaching out to more alumni in hopes of having PvP on a larger scale in subsequent years.

BEMA and SIBL Kickstart New Scholarship with $155,500 at NUS

Building and Estate Management Alumni (BEMA) and Singapore Institute of Building Limited (SIBL) has kickstarted a new SIBL-BEMA Endowed Scholarship, with $155,500 raised. The endowed fund will provide scholarships to deserving students in the new Bachelor of Engineering (Infrastructure and Project Management) programme. At least one scholarship will be awarded each Academic Year, with a quantum of up to $10,000. 

Dr Teo Ho Pin (Design and Environment ’85), President of BEMA and Adjunct Professor in NUS College of Design and Engineering shared, "I am grateful to the 11 big-hearted donors who stepped forward and raised a total of $155,500 to kickstart this endowed scholarship. It is indeed very encouraging despite the uncertainty of the pandemic and economic situation that we are facing locally and globally.”

BEMA would like to take this opportunity to reach out to like-minded individuals to contribute to this meaningful cause, which will allow our youths to continue to have access to education and pursue their passion despite their financial circumstances. NUS Alumni Manila Chapter's Christmas Party 2022

NUS Alumni Manila Chapter recently held its annual Christmas Gathering on 30 November 2022 at the El Corazon Restaurant. Known for its mix of Filipino and Spanish dishes, the restaurant is located at Uptown Mall, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, Metro Manila. The committee decided to hold the Christmas celebration earlier to gather more attendees, as 30 November was coincidentally a Public Holiday in the Philippines, which celebrates the birthday of one of the country’s greatest hero – Andrés Bonifacio. 24 alumni attended the early Christmas Gathering, representing nine faculties and schools including those from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, School of Business, School of Computing, College of Design and Engineering, Faculty of Law, School of Medicine, School of Public Policy, and Faculty of Science. The event also saw the attendance of Second Secretary, Embassy of Singapore in the Philippines, Ms Amanda Cheah (Arts and Social Sciences ’17).

The evening began with an overview by Chapter Chairperson, Mr Richard Tan (Public Policy ’13) on the activities for the past year, to seek feedback from the alumni membership on how to engage new alumni and increase attendance for future Chapter events. One possibility was to hold smaller gatherings amongst sub-groups of alumni by faculties and schools. After Mr Tan’s sharing, it was dinnertime and to everyone’s delight, cochinillo (suckling pig) was served.
