In the final days of her last semester, NUS College (NUSC) student Ms Loh An Lin (History + NUSC ’25) found herself stumped. Somehow, she’d met with an unsolvable technical issue in her academic project, and the submission deadline was approaching fast.

With anxiety levels rising, An Lin reached out to the one person who might help her: Anne.

This was Madam Anne Yeo, former Senior Associate Director of NUSC, whom students simply called Anne. Though An Lin’s issue fell outside Anne’s purview, she went out of her way to find a solution, and resolved the problem within minutes.

“What struck me was not just her efficiency,” An Lin shared, reflecting on Anne’s act of goodwill. “It was the security that she would be there to solve problems as they came. It was her steadiness and kindness that gave students the quiet confidence that Anne and her team were looking out for us.”

Stories like An Lin’s are shared by students across NUSC. Be it a course registration hiccup, a student assignment hit by a glitch or a student missing classes due to sudden illness, they knew they could turn to Anne for help whenever they needed it. And time and again, Anne showed up for them.

However, after a lifetime of caring and loving those around her, Anne passed away in 2025, leaving behind a community that felt her absence in ways both big and small.

“Anne had a huge impact on the community and losing her has impacted us all,” said Mr Shaun Song (Law + NUSC ’25), who had worked closely with Mdm Yeo during his time at NUSC. “She was always ready to help those around her. Her commitment to the community went above and beyond her role.

Ms Loh An Lin (left) and Mr Shaun Song (right) rallied the NUSC community to establish the Anne Yeo Prize in honour of Anne and her commitment to caring for others.

With Anne’s passing, An Lin and Shaun wanted to honour everything she stood for, and rallied the NUSC community to establish the Anne Yeo Prize in her name. So far, there has been an outstanding show of support from those whose lives Anne touched: students, faculty, former colleagues, alumni, friends and family.

Every contribution brings them one step closer to this goal. Once S$75,000 has been raised, the Anne Yeo Prize will be established and awarded to a graduating NUSC student leader who goes the extra mile for others, embodying the very spirit Anne lived by.

Inspiring Generations of Kindness

As the Law faculty coordinator for the NUSC Mentorship Programme, Shaun had witnessed Anne’s quiet acts of care firsthand. There was one particular episode that stayed with him. When a batchmate fell ill and missed classes, it was Anne who picked up on it. She reached out to Shaun personally, asking him to check in on his peer and ensure she had the support she needed.

“This exemplified Anne’s care and warmth,” said Shaun. “Something I know that many others in the community would have experienced as well.”

The Anne Yeo Prize is both a tribute to Anne’s life of selfless service and a torch of kindness to be passed on, generation after generation.

“We hope that this Prize will recognise those in the NUSC community who follow in her footsteps and emulate Anne’s spirit,” Shaun concluded.
