We are working to help build a Singapore where everyday conversations about mental health are commonplace and seeking support is as normalised as going to the doctor for a flu. As one of the first major institutions of higher learning in the country to take this step, we are crafting a blueprint for other institutions and organisations to follow suit and build their own cultures of compassion.

#AreuOK, NUS' Mental health conditions destigmastiation campaign is now back, refreshed, bigger and better as, (kind)mind!

Through (kind)mind, together as a community, let's build a safe space within NUS to discuss mental health and take care of our psychological wellbeing!

✨ We aim to destigmatise mental health conditions in the NUS community with and through kindness, trust and empathy.
✨ We value personal growth and development, by building resilience, encouraging self-mastery, and supporting those who seek help.
✨ Through an actionable and research-backed framework, we are creating an open-source toolkit to enhance mental health awareness and management.

Understanding Our Emotions

[NUS HWB] LiNUS-05

Dealing effectively with our emotions can sometimes be challenging.

For many of us, we often suppress our emotions in fear of negative reactions from others. Additionally, the existence of certain (sometimes unspoken) societal and organisational rules might sway us against expressing our feelings freely.

Current psychological research has suggested that when individuals do not acknowledge and address their emotions, they tend to display lower wellbeing and more physical symptoms of stress, like headaches.

Naming our emotions — what psychologists call labelling — is an essential first step in dealing with them effectively. However, many of us struggle to identify what we feel and why we feel a certain way, often requiring guidance.

Let us accompany you on this journey in exploring how to manage our emotions better!
