NUS Giving Run BIG (where 'BIG' stands for 'Believe In Giving' celebrates those who have made an impact on NUS and Singapore as a whole

NUS Giving Run BIG (where 'BIG' in the event name stands for 'Believe In Giving') was organised to celebrate everyday heroes - individuals who have not only impacted NUS students, faculties and research institutes but also the community and Singapore as a whole. On the morning of 29 September 2019, sun-lit skies welcomed close to 3,000 participants who attended in support of the event's cause. NUS also welcomed special groups such as the Special Olympics Singapore to elderly members from the community clubs to enjoy the event with us.

Centred around the Kent Ridge vicinity of NUS, the event was met with hype and support from all walks of the NUS life - from alumni to current NUS students, as well as friends and families of NUS affiliates. Mr Lim Chong Tee, NUS Engineering alumnus, is one of the many familiar faces at the run on Sunday morning. "I have been privileged to be granted many opportunities during my time at NUS," he said. "It is an honour for me to present and support this event as a way of saying 'thank you' to the individuals who believe in giving to education."

In the lead-up to the event, participants also had the opportunity to nominate a personal hero - a person who has made an impact on their lives. We have been heartened to receive different stories of parents, bosses and mentors who have truly touched lives in their own ways.

Participating runners ran along a specially-curated race route with scenic views around NUS coupled with the challenging hilly campus terrain. Event-goers could also purchase game cards to take part in exciting workshops and activities at the Race Village. The proceeds raised from the Race Village goes towards NUS Bursaries to support financially needy students.

At NUS, philanthropy for education has been a vital source of support to many different individuals within the school. Whether big or small, every gift to the University has helped to cultivate more opportunities. This includes helping deserving students through bursaries and scholarships, supporting faculties and academic programmes and funding research for innovative solutions. The University is also privileged to have the unwavering support of alumni, students and friends through annual gifts. They make up a key building block of NUS' history and has a pivotal part to play in the University's success.

NUS Giving would like to thank all participants, performers, and sponsors for supporting and being a part of NUS Giving Run BIG 2019! More importantly, to those who Believe in Giving to NUS, we thank you for being a hero to our students, our faculties and our community.
