innovation4.0 (i4.0)

A next-generation innovation hub powering AI, data science, and the future of smart technologies.

innovation4.0 (i4.0) is a fully refurbished 6-storey R&D cluster sited in the core of the University’s research precinct. Completed in 2018, it is home to strategic research programmes under the NUS Smart Nation Research Cluster, showcasing research in areas such as data science, cybersecurity, analytics, while fostering innovations in Smart Mobility, Smart Living, Digital Health and Social Connectivity.
Spanning a total Gross Floor Area (GFA) of 15,400 m2, i4.0 incorporates interior greenery and flexible open-plan office spaces designed to support social, creative and collaborative work. Other unique building features include smart-energy building system controls for ambient room temperatures and intuitive task lighting, enterprise Makerspace, café, large LED event media wall and a double-volume event space in the lobby and atrium for hosting of programme launches, partnerships and industry collaborations. Research offices and corporate labs, such as the Institute of Operations Research and Analysis, Institute of Data Science, Smart Systems Institute, CISCO-NUS Accelerated Digital Economy Corporate Laboratory and SIA-NUS Digital Aviation Corporate Laboratory, occupy Level 1 – 5.
i4.0 also houses a 568 m2 centralised High Performance Computing (HPC) data centre with a testbed for POC Server Technology. The ‘warm water’-cooled, green data centre houses a national supercomputer, forming part of Singapore’s national supercomputing resources. These resources will support and strengthen local research at universities, research institutes, government agencies and companies in scientific fields such as weather and climate monitoring, genomics, engineering, offshore and marine, urban planning and biomedical science.
