Mentoring the Sustainability Champions of the Future
Not many of us have the good fortune to meet our childhood idols in real life. So, when NUS alumnae Ms Cheo Pei Rong, Senior Manager and Career Coach at the NUS Centre for Future-ready Graduates (NUS CFG), met famed biologist and natural historian Sir David Attenborough, she felt like “a total fangirl”.
New one-stop platform boosts service performance
NUService Hub, which commenced in mid-2021, has been getting the thumbs up so far. Fully launched in June, it marks a significant step in NUS’ vision to strengthen its operational efficiency and administrative excellence.
Co-creating a workplace of the future
A new series of townhalls was launched on 10 March, aimed to engage the NUS community to gather thoughtful inputs and generate ideas to reimagine and co-create the workplace of the future for NUS.
Enabling efficiency the digital way
Technology is rapidly evolvinges to generate new ways of working, and facilitating the digitalisation of processes for smoother and more efficient work.
Students play a part in Organisational Excellence
Staff may form the bulk of stakeholders in most of the OE projects but students are blue-chip players too.
Opening doors to new knowledge
A staple of NUS Libraries, the Central Library underwent a long-awaited facelift and reopened its doors on 3 December 2021, with a renewed sense of purpose.
Procurement’s promising pathway
Timely reviews and continuous improvement are imperative to ensure procurement in University remains a strategic function.
Hop on for a smoother bus ride
Did you know that the NUS Internal Shuttle Buses (ISB) cover a whopping distance of 1,112,430 km collectively on our campuses annually? That makes it about 27 trips around the earth!
Uniting with uNivUS
The number of disparate NUS mobile apps has long been a bane to campus users, and the gauntlet was thrown in 2019 to see if all these apps can be integrated into a single “mother of all apps” platform.
Keeping Fit with Traditional Moves
For Associate Professor Lau Tang Ching, NUS Medicine Vice-Dean (Education), his affinity with Tai Chi (colloquially known as shadowboxing) started at a young age.
Procuring medals and prizes with ease
At a university as large as NUS, the procurement of medals and prizes during the annual Commencement ceremonies involves many departments, and the process can be tedious and time-consuming.
Beyond academics: Educating the mind, body, heart and spirit
The noble intent of educating and nurturing the next generation of leaders certainly wasn’t quite high on Norman’s agenda when he decided to be a teacher back in 2005.
Delivering quality campus stays
Each year, from April to August and November to January, the Office of Housing Services handles a high volume of operational processes for residents across residential colleges, halls and residences on campus.
#AreuOK: Cultivating inclusivity and empathy
The global pandemic has changed our work culture, and highlighted the importance of mental health and wellbeing. In December 2020, NUS launched the #AreuOK campaign to drive awareness of mental health, and to create an environment of empathy and inclusivity for staff.
The Science and Art of Natural History
“My parents would tell me I was not like other children, instead of playing at the playground, I would be elsewhere collecting sticks, leaves and rocks,” shared Mr Muhammad Dzaki bin Safaruan on his innate interest as a child.
Continuing the journey of change
Amid rapid changes at the University, it is crucial for staff to adopt an agile mindset – which involves being ready for change and seeking innovative ways of working.
Procuring a pathway to change
For someone whose job requires him to traverse the globe regularly, it must have been tough for Mr Pang Chong Ning, the University’s Chief Procurement Officer, to put away his passport and settle for a staid job back in Singapore after 21 years.
Listening to the community
The University has expanded its digital infrastructure considerably since embarking on the Organisational Excellence journey. With the overhaul of enterprise systems, new platforms and digital tools were introduced to improve work processes for staff.
Real-time collaborations with Teams
The global pandemic situation has changed the way the University staff conduct their daily work, and highlighted the importance of digitalisation.
Cultivating young talents
As part of the University’s journey to drive continuous improvement, the NUS Associate Management Programme was launched in 2018.
