Empowering Student Success in Career Development using Digital Tools
The workforce landscape has witnessed significant shifts, including the widespread integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in recruitment processes, the rise of remote video interviews and a demand for versatile skill sets that transcend traditional fields of study. The NUS Centre for Future-Ready Graduates (CFG) shares two digital tools that play a pivotal role in equipping students to be career-ready.
Agility Network Launches as Newest NUS CoP
The NUS Agility Network, launched in March 2023, is the latest Community of Practice (CoP) established in various industries and interest areas to provide support, resources and networking for their members. It brings together NUS staff with an interest in increasing the University’s efficiency and responsiveness in an evolving higher education landscape.
NUS STARS Run 2023: Fostering active lifestyles and camaraderie among staff
The inaugural NUS STARS (Staff Talent in Athletics and Recreational Sports) programme, organised by the Office of Human Resources (OHR), kicked off with a 3.5km run across the Kent Ridge Campus on 22 July 2023. The NUS STARS programme aims to promote an active lifestyle through competitive sports and reignite the sporting spirit amongst NUS staff.
Digitalising the Student Admissions Process
To handle an increase in the number of student applications received and the challenging circumstances created by COVID-19, the NUS Business School Master of Science Programmes incorporated a digital interviewing solution from startup Astronaut Technologies into their admissions process, saving approximately 100 man-hours during a single admission cycle.
NUS Tech Sandbox: Inspiring Administrative Innovation
To help inspire the administration at the National University of Singapore (NUS) to embrace a more innovative mindset, while also finding solutions to the University’s pain points, the NUS Tech Sandbox was piloted in mid-2022 by Mr Clarence Ti, NUS Deputy President (Administration). The initiative is meant to drive a culture of agility and creativity within the University, encouraging staff exposure to external ideas and helping position NUS as an early adopter of disruptive technology.

The Future at Work: Office of Finance Reveals Revamped Office
In January 2023, the office, located on the third floor of University Hall, opened its doors to returning staff following the completion of a six-month renovation that commenced last July.
Developing Employees for an Agile University
As the University affirms its commitment to lifelong learning for its graduates by scaling up its offerings in the Continuing Education and Training (CET) space, it has also pledged to develop a strong employee development programme that supports the growth of its staff.
Quantifying OE: Overhauling Enterprise Systems
The Organisational Excellence (OE) initiative was launched in 2018 to modernise NUS’ administration and enhance operational efficiency. One important component of this goal has been the upgrading of the University’s technology systems, bringing them in line with industry standards to provide for a more agile and effective support apparatus.
Employees Weigh in on NUS’ Agility
To increase efficiency on an operational level, NUS introduced the Organisational Excellence (OE) initiative in 2018 to simplify processes, overhaul major enterprise systems, and restructure NUS’ administrative services through the adoption of a Shared Services and Business Partnering model. The the NUS Organisational Agility survey sheds light on how NUS staff have responded to major changes.
Procuring Change through Branding and Empowerment
The Central Procurement Office (CPO)'s Procurement Reform 2.0 exercise resulted in the re-engineering of 12 processes and the streamlining of the University Procurement Policy. It also refreshed its brand identity, raising awareness of key changes and the unit’s mission to engage and simplify.
Developing a BPR Mindset
With the aim of increasing the speed and quality of its services, DVO teamed up with the Organisational Excellence Transformation Unit (OETU) to identify and streamline its processes over a period from August 2021 to April 2022.
DE’Hackathon: Transforming NUS Through Digital Enablement
