Our People
All aboard on NUS Concur!
The launch of NUS Concur in August 2020 marked another milestone in the University’s journey towards a best-in-class administration. The new system for expense claims as well as travel claims and bookings, Concur is mobile-friendly and incorporates reporting features to enhance user experience.
Power automating workflows
As the University continues its steady shift towards automation, there is an increased adoption of digital tools to enhance and optimise administrative processes.
Enhancing capabilities with data literacy
In April 2020, NUS launched the Data Literacy Programme (DLP) to empower staff with basic data analytics skills, as part of a University-wide initiative to enhance staff capabilities.
You’ve got mail – digitally!
In 2019, the University facilitated over 200,000 incoming and outgoing physical mail between internal departments, as well as with external parties.
Digitalising tasks with Robotic Process Automation
For departments across the University, repetitive manual tasks, such as data entry and extraction, underpin a large part of administrative processes.
Improving accessibility to lab materials
For NUS research staff, purchasing chemicals and lab consumables constitutes an important part of their daily work.
Adopting teleconsultation amidst COVID-19
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the ways in which the University operates, including how services are provided to students and staff. One of these services include teleconsultation, introduced by the University Health Centre (UHC), to continue serving the community when face-to-face consultation proved to be a challenge.
Enhancing research administration
For research staff at the University, projects are fundamental to their work scope. From funding opportunities to research outcomes, the project lifecycle is an extensive process that may at times involve human subjects, human cells, tissue and data.
Digitalising processes with power tools
When the “circuit breaker” measures were announced by the Singapore government in April 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the University took the opportunity to review and improve common processes for more effective student administration.
Internal Job Marketplace: Developing talent from within
For many large organisations, internal staff mobility is known to be beneficial for retaining talent and nurturing career growth.
Conversations with Chatbots
For departments that field a high volume of daily queries and requests, leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) technology in the form of chatbots or conversational agents enable them to save on manpower and improve the services provided to staff and students.
Community Champions: Safety behind the scenes
Fast evolving developments of COVID-19 meant increased vigilance and enhanced precautionary measures on campus. During these challenging times, hidden heroes at University Campus Infrastructure are hard at work keeping our community safe through contact tracing, temperature screening and safe distancing measures.
OE heroes: One-stop cashless payments with eColl2.0
To prepare the University community who may return to campus in phases, a cashless payment system, eCollections2.0 (eColl2.0) was launched to serve as the payment gateway integrating internal applications with external payment facilities.
OE heroes: Driving continuous improvement with category management
It is inevitable that a university renowned for research and innovation, such as NUS, will see significant expenditure on lab materials.
NUS OK celebrates community talents
On 15 June 2020, staff and students gathered online for an afternoon of activities to celebrate various talents and a sense of kampung spirit in the close-knit university community.
Staying connected with NUS StayHome Series
To provide support for NUS students, staff and the wider community during the phased “circuit breaker” period, the NUS StayHome webinar series was launched by the Office of University Communications in May 2020.
Simultaneous e-approval with DocuSign, anytime and anywhere
An organisation as large as NUS deals with many contracts and various types of agreements.
Working from home in the age of COVID-19
In support of the Singapore government’s efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19 through “circuit breaker” measures between 7 April and 1 June, the University moved all non-essential services staff to a telecommuting work arrangement.
A duty to serve
How far would you go to help a stranger? For Marcel Bandur, who has crossed borders and learnt new languages just so he could help others, the answer is likely: never far enough.
Cheers to effective performance management and work success!
The annual goal setting exercise for Executive and Administrative personnel has commenced, and staff together with reporting managers, are collaborating to set department/team priorities and individual goals for the year ahead.
