Nurturing the Innovators of Tomorrow

Innovation and entrepreneurship are two essential drivers of long-term economic growth.

NUS aims to achieve this by establishing and supporting a regional innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem among our youths and partner organisations. Besides expanding existing programmes, stronger partnerships with local and regional players across public and private sectors will anchor Singapore's position as the region's entrepreneurial hub.

At the same time, creating innovative learning pathways will stimulate unconventional thinking, building the talent pipeline for the region's future leaders.

GET INSPIRED BY OUR STORIES OF IMPACT

The strength of the NUS Giving community lies in a common belief that we can all play a role in making the world a better place by creating impact where it matters. By supporting entrepreneurship among youths, we are nurturing future leaders and changemakers committed to providing solutions to the challenges faced by society. Read our stories here.

EMPOWERING DEEP TECH ADVANCEMENT IN SINGAPORE
Oct 20, 2022

GIVE TO GRIP

The Graduate Research Innovation Programme (GRIP) aims to support and foster the development of deep tech companies in Singapore. With a strong focus on advanced technologies and artificial intelligence (AI), GRIP is actively involved in the deep tech ecosystem and works closely with industry partners, venture capitalists and government agencies.

One of GRIP’s key strengths lies in its collaboration with Commercial Champions — industry veterans who provide mentorship and expert guidance. These Champions help teams understand market dynamics, navigate common start-up challenges and embark on a smoother journey toward success.

GRIP also works closely with community partners, including investors, government bodies and prototyping partners. These collaborations coalesce around a shared goal of elevating start-ups, with partners gaining access to a pipeline of innovative research-based deep tech ventures.

With its focus on industry collaboration and commercial viability, GRIP enriches NUS' deep tech ecosystem, driving the development of solutions that benefit society at large.

Help empower postgraduate students, researchers and NUS Overseas Colleges alumni to transform research into deep tech start-ups.

Give to GRIP >

THE IMPORTANCE OF DEEP TECH

Deep tech emerges from scientific discoveries and advanced engineering, signifying leaps in technological development. It disrupts norms by creating paradigm shifts in our interaction with technology, encompassing revolutionary fields such as artificial intelligence and quantum computing.

HEALTHCARE

In the healthcare domain, deep tech is revolutionising the diagnosis, treatment and management of diseases. It empowers physicians with the genetic insights, AI and data analytics to tailor medical interventions to individual patients.

Envision a future where diseases are detected at their earliest stages, treatments are customised for each patient's unique genetic blueprint and healthcare becomes truly personalised.

ENERGY

The energy sector is undergoing a monumental shift, thanks to deep tech. It has the capability to drive innovations in renewable energy sources, energy storage and grid management. From optimising solar energy to developing advanced battery technologies, deep tech is shaping an energy landscape that is sustainable, clean and resilient.

MANUFACTURING

In manufacturing, deep tech is synonymous with industry 4.0. It enables the fusion of automation, AI and the Internet of Things (IoT) to create "smart factories." These factories will be able to self-optimise, self-adapt and even predict maintenance needs, leading to streamlined production, reduced waste and increased efficiency.

SUPPORTING DEEP TECH THROUGH NUS GIVING

Your support through NUS Giving plays a pivotal role in advancing deep tech research in Singapore. By contributing to NUS and our programmes, you are nurturing an environment where transformative ideas flourish. Your generosity fuels research, empowers researchers, and charts a course for innovations with lasting global implications.

Deep tech is not just about technological progress; it is about shaping a future that is smarter and more sustainable. Through giving to GRIP, you become a part of this transformative journey, creating an enduring impact that reverberates through generations to come.

HOW NUS SUPPORTS YOUTH ENTREPRENEURSHIP

SUPPORTING START-UPS & SMEs WITH IMPACT

NUS GRIP uniquely aligns brilliant minds with industry challenges, transforming top research into commercially viable solutions. Whether it is water-conserving soil or Internet of Things (IoT) solutions via nano-satellites, our portfolio start-ups could be the next game-changers. For those in the biomedical field, our JUMPstart (Joint University Medtech Programme) programme specifically addresses the unique challenges faced by bio-entrepreneurs. By offering an integrated product and business development approach, JUMPstart has successfully accelerated 14 biomedical teams into the marketplace since its inception in 2016.

RAISING AWARENESS OF YOUTH ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Raising awareness of youth entrepreneurship is vital for societal impact. NUS' Enterprise Summer Programme in Entrepreneurship amplifies this by immersing international students in Singapore's vibrant start up ecosystem. Over two weeks, participants engage in lectures, interact with local start-ups, and visit key organisations. This comprehensive approach not only educates but also fosters global connections, preparing youths to be both innovative and socially responsible leaders.

SUPPORTING SUSTAINABLE GROWTH

NUS encourages sustainable growth among young entrepreneurs by offering a plethora of resources ranging from mentorship to workspace. Through our NUS Minimum Viable Product Studio by Technology Transfer and Innovation, we support the rapid prototyping of commercially viable technologies. Guided by Master Engineers with industry experience, these prototypes help researchers and start-ups test the market faster. This studio serves as a hub where entrepreneurs can easily learn how their businesses can benefit from NUS innovations. Our initiatives aim to provide the necessary tools for start-ups to navigate challenges and scale effectively.

ACCESS TO RESOURCES AND FINANCING

Our Master of Science (Venture Creation) programme provides aspiring young entrepreneurs with a 360-degree support system. From mentorship in business development to networking opportunities and access to cutting-edge NUS technologies, the programme prepares students for market success.

SEE THE POSSIBILITY FOR OUR FUTURE

You have the power to create transformational opportunities. Are you ready to change lives for the better?
