Through collaborations with renowned partner universities to set up schools & programmes here, NUS students are provided with opportunities for a global experience and exposure right here “at home”.
Duke-NUS was established in 2005 as a strategic collaboration between Duke University and NUS to complement NUS’ existing undergraduate medical school. The school's curriculum is patterned after that of the Duke University School of Medicine.
The Yale-NUS College, which was established in 2011 in collaboration with Yale University, offers a unique, leading edge, and paradigm-changing model in liberal arts education for the 21st century contextualized to Asia.
NUS University Town (UTown) welcomed its first batch of students in 2011. First of its kind in Singapore and the region, UTown is adapted from leading residential colleges in the world and combines the vibrancy of campus living with an exciting
learning experience in a global setting – one that fosters a spirit of adventure, inquiry and enterprise.

On 25 February, 15 NUS staff, students and alumni set off on a week-long NUS Study Trips for Engagement and EnRichment (STEER) voyage in collaboration with Tembusu College, from Jakarta to the Krakatoa archipelago. The trip was the ninth voyage by NUS Seafarers, a series of experiential learning voyages which first began in January 2017.

From 11 to 22 December 2017, 16 NUS staff and students set off on an 11-day voyage across the Riau Islands in Indonesia as part of NUS Seafarers, a series of experiential learning voyages which first began in January 2017.

Over the three weeks from 9 to 29 December, a group of 20 students took off for Chiang Mai in Thailand to set their hands to work helping elephants, planting trees and building dams in three villages as part of the NUS Rotaract Club special project Trees N Trunks '17.

Former President of East Timor and Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr José Ramos-Horta spoke to some 120 youths at NUS University Town during the PeaceJam Singapore conference hosted by the NUS Centre for Future-ready Graduates (CFG) on 2 December. He shared tips on how to be a good leader, the likes of former President of South Africa Mr Nelson Mandela and founding father of Singapore Mr Lee Kuan Yew.

The fifth STEP-NUS Sunburst Environment Programme, held between 13 and 17 November, set out to encourage more than 100 secondary school students from Singapore, Brunei, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam to take a deeper look at the fragile ecosystems in our world.

NUS young alumni have raised $80,000 for the new FASStrack Asia Advancement Bursary Fund which will help financially needy NUS Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) undergraduates enrolled in the FASStrack Asia programme from next year. Started in 2013, FASStrack Asia is the Faculty’s flagship summer school programme.

Team Singapore athletes brought home a remarkable 188 medals at the 29th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which came to a close on 30 August after close to two weeks of intense competition. Contributing to this impressive feat were NUS students and alumni who did the nation and University proud with their fighting spirit and sportsmanship.

The University Scholars Programme represented Singapore and NUS as the host for the 17th ASEAN University Network and 6th ASEAN+3 Educational Forum and Young Speakers' Contest this year. Themed “ASEAN+3 in an Era of Global Uncertainty: Responses and Optimism” and held from 22 to 26 May, the event gathered students from the ASEAN region and the ‘+3’ countries — China, Japan and the Republic of Korea, to discuss and explore issues pertinent to the Asian region.

Nine NUS students kicked off their new year earlier this month by sailing off on a ship for a week-long voyage across the Equator. Sailing aboard an 18-metre schooner, the students, together with three NUS alumni, one faculty member and the ship’s captain and crew, set off from Batam at the crack of dawn on 2 January for their destination Pulau Lingga, an Indonesian island on the Equator. Along the way, they learned how to sail, and picked up lessons in maritime navigation and geography, and a renewed perspective on nature and the environment.
