Partner Universities For Winter Programmes

**Important Update on COVID-19**

Page updated on 22 September 2021: Approval has been received for global programmes to resume in most countries, barring any worsening of the COVID-19 pandemic, and subject to the border control measures of host countries.

Additional information is available at this webpage (while the information is for SEP, it is still relevant to students travelling overseas for winter programmes).

GRO has curated a list of winter programmes offered by NUS' partner universities in 2021. Before you apply for any programme, do review the important information listed below.

Electronic (Online) Winter Programmes

These electronic winter programmes, whilst credit-bearing by the partner universities, are offered to NUS students for enrichment only. Module mapping and financial assistance are not applicable to any electronic winter programmes. Applications are to be submitted directly to the partner university offering the programme and application on EduRec is not required.

Physical (On-Site) Winter Programmes

Students may be considering physical (on-site) winter programmes in 2021. Due to the fluid situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is still much uncertainty regarding international travel in the months ahead.

Students’ ability to travel to a country for winter 2021 will be determined by the host country’s travel policies as well as any updates to the latest travel advisory from Singapore authorities. Do factor in the need for quarantine in the host country and stay-home notice upon return to Singapore when considering the feasibility of participating in winter programmes.

To be eligible for physical (on-site) winter programmes, students will need to:

1. complete the compulsory Overseas Travel Preparedness (OTP) module on LumiNUS;
2. submit a copy of their vaccination certificate and the completed Risk Acknowledgement and Consent Form when applying on EduRec;
3. declare their travel plans on the NUS Overseas Travel Declaration Portal;
4. register with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or your country’s diplomatic mission; and
5. attend a pre-departure briefing conducted by GRO.

Students who proceed with the physical (on-site) option acknowledge the risks associated. NUS will not be responsible for any lost deposits or expenses (including but not limited to programme/tuition fees, air tickets, housing deposits, meal plans and/or non-academic student fees) associated with travel disruptions. Students are advised NOT to make any financial commitments particularly those which are non-refundable until you are certain that travel is possible. You will be fully responsible for any and all travel expenses, quarantine accommodation costs, COVID-19 tests or other costs related to the measures imposed at that point of time, both in the host country and Singapore.

Hybrid Winter Programmes

Some partner universities are adopting a hybrid format for their winter programmes in 2021, with some courses being offered online while others are being offered on-site. Due to the fluid situation of the COVID-19 pandemic and uncertainty regarding international travel in the months ahead, any aspect of the programmes can change at short notice.

• For online programmes, please note that, whilst credit-bearing by the partner universities, these are offered to NUS students for enrichment only. Module mapping and financial assistance are not applicable to any online winter programmes. Applications are to be submitted directly to the partner university offering the programme and application on EduRec is not required.

• For on-site programmes, please refer to advice above.

FAQ on Module Mapping for Winter Programmes 2021

Would credit transfer be allowed for electronic winter programmes 2021 (December 2021 to January 2022)?

No, credit transfer would not be permitted for electronic winter programmes 2021. Participation in such programmes will be for enrichment purposes only.

Would credit transfer be allowed for on-site winter programmes 2021 (December 2021 to January 2022)?

Yes, students may map up to a maximum of 5 MCs for each on-site winter programme. Module mapping will be subject to approval from the respective Faculties/Schools.

NUS will grant students a fee waiver for up to 2 summer / winter programmes and up to a total of 12 MCs transferred during their course of study in NUS.

Details about the policy on module mapping for summer / winter programmes is available here.

Why is there a difference in credit transfer and module mapping arrangement between electronic and on-site winter programmes?

In general, NUS does not permit module mapping for electronic summer/winter programmes. In view of the global situation and its impact on students' study abroad plans, a one-off arrangement was applied to allow module mapping and credit transfer only for participation in electronic summer programmes in 2021 (May-July 2021).

Winter programmes offered by partner universities usually start in early December and ends in early January. The duration for winter programme is shorter, however, students may still be able to transfer the credits for at least one course.
