Quantum
The Zhang Chinese Exchange Study Awards provide the following funding support for students participating in overseas programmes in Mainland China:
- Student Exchange Programmes (SEP): S$6,000 per award
- Short-Term Programmes (STP): Up to S$1,500 per award*
These amounts are intended to help offset the costs of programme participation but may not cover all expenses. Students are advised to carefully consider the location and total estimated costs when selecting an overseas programme.
* For STP with total programme costs below S$1,500, NUS Global will request eligible applicants to submit official receipts or supporting documents for programme fee, airfare and accommodation to process the reimbursement.

Eligibility Criteria
- Singapore citizens.
- NUS full-time undergraduate students, with preference given to students who have not participated in any NUS-administered SEP or STP in Mainland China.
- Students with per capita gross monthly household income (PCI)* of S$2,500 and below for the academic year of the SEP or STP will be considered, subject to availability of funds. Please refer to the information under application procedure.
- SEP: Refers to exchange programmes at one of NUS’ partner universities in Mainland China.
- STP: Refers to summer, winter and research attachment programmes with at least a minimum duration of 14 days in Mainland China.
- Students in their final semester of study may apply provided the overseas programme is completed before their conferment dates.
- The following programmes are not eligible for Zhang Chinese Exchange Study Award.
- Study Trips for Engagement and EnRichment (STEER)
- Southeast Asia Friendship Initiative (SFI)
- Overseas Community Service Projects
- Trips that are not part of a programme (e.g. individual field research)
*Per capita gross monthly household income (PCI) refers to the total gross monthly income of all those living in the household divided by the number of people in the household.
Terms and Conditions
- Each student may receive at most ONE (1) Zhang Chinese Exchange Study Award during their undergraduate studies at NUS.
- This award cannot be held concurrently with any other awards for the same overseas programme.
- NUS reserves the right to fully or partially recall the award if the overseas programme is cancelled, suspended, not completed at the host university, or if any award obligations are not fulfilled.
- NUS reserves the right to vary or amend the terms, conditions and contents of this award application at its sole discretion, with due notice provided to applicants.
- Award recipients are required to submit a reflection letter to the donor upon completion of their overseas programme. The letter should cover what they have learnt, whether the experience has changed their perspective of China, and whether they would have participated in the overseas programme without the support of the award.
- All award recipients are required to complete the necessary post-return actions outlined in the Returning Student Checklist after their overseas programme.
Application Procedure, Timeline and Outcome
Prerequisite
Students must have received and accepted an existing programme offer via myEduRec by the deadline set by the Programme Administrator.
A Financial Aid application for the same academic year as the overseas programme must be submitted through the Undergraduate Applicant Portal (nus.edu.sg). All relevant supporting documents must be submitted to the Office of Financial Aid (OFA), which administers the Financial Aid applications.
Application
After submitting the Financial Aid application, students may proceed to apply for the Zhang Chinese Exchange Study Award via myEduRec. Please refer to user guide* for the step-by-step instructions. This award application is administered by NUS Global.
* If accessing the user guide from off-campus, students must be connected to the NUS VPN.
Important Notes:
- Submitting a Financial Aid application does not constitute an application for Zhang Chinese Exchange Study Award. These are two separate applications with different timelines and requirements.
- To be considered for the Zhang Chinese Exchange Study Award, a complete Financial Aid application is required.
- Students who have already submitted a Financial Aid application for the relevant academic year prior to their overseas programme application do not need to submit a new Financial Aid application.
Application outcome and acceptance of offer
Students will be notified of the application outcome via NUS email account. All eligibility criteria must be met before accepting the offer via myEduRec.
Upon accepting the award, students must promptly update their ‘Receiving Bank Account’ (Credit Bank Account) details via myEduRec.
