Helix House Open House 2024

On March 9th, 2024, Helix House welcomed over 250 visitors to its inaugural Open House. A gamified tour awaited them, where they were invited to partake in a series of activities planned and led by the Open House Committee and various Interest Groups. This board game-themed experience symbolised the exciting journey of self-discovery and opportunity awaiting prospective Helix House residents. Just like in a board game, Helix House provided residents the space to move freely and encounter new experiences and possibilities at every turn.

At Helix House, we believe in experiential learning and giving our residents opportunities to showcase their talents and explore their interests. As such, our residents were heavily involved in every facet of the Open House.

Helix Band, Helix Dance Society, and various talented individuals put on a show, as visitors were treated to a lineup of exciting dance and music performances. Additionally, there were Interest Group showcases, where visitors had the opportunity to partake in interactive games and even receive free and customised goodies. For instance, Helix Bean and Leaf propped up a live coffee and matcha station, while Helix Oven and Stove baked delicious cookies for all.

Apart from the lively performances and interactive booths, visitors also embarked on a deeper exploration of the unique experiences offered by Helix. The diverse experiential learning opportunities offered by Helix’s Residential Fellows were on display, ranging from cultural excursions to community engagement projects. Student-led initiatives were also showcased, enumerating the nascent yet vibrant and ever-evolving student life in Helix. However, the most compelling takeaway might be the opportunity for growth. Joining Helix House wouldn't just mean experiencing its offerings, but also being actively part of initiating and shaping events that contribute to building a supportive and tightly-knitted community.

At the end of the tour, visitors received a special welfare pack that included a variety of gifts specially crafted by our different interest groups, such as crochets made by our Helix crochet club, postcards made by Helix Photography and stickers made by Helix Publicity.

Reflecting on the Open House, Fean Tan, the Open House Project Director, shared his pride for a successful event. “The favourite part of the planning process was working with my committee members. We planned everything from scratch. From our marketing strategy to the creative activities, it was the brainchild of my committee’s efforts.”

The impact of the Open House was profound, as it not only exceeded expectations in terms of attendance but also left a lasting impression on participants. Indeed, the success of Open House is a testimonial to the budding Helix House community and a sign of things to come.
