A/Prof LEE Kooi Cheng

Associate Professor LEE Kooi Cheng has a joint appointment at the Centre for English Language Communication where she serves as director.  She was Master of King Edward VII Hall for five years before joining Tembusu College as its Deputy Master where she served for two years.

While her main interest is in the use of technology in (English) language teaching and learning in higher education, Kooi Cheng also has a keen interest in the impact of experiential learning and living-learning programmes on students’ university experience.  A passionate educator, Kooi Cheng is on the Annual Teaching (ATEA) Excellence Honour Roll and is a former member of the NUS Teaching Academy. 

An avid runner, Kooi Cheng enjoys running outdoors.  She also plays tennis recreationally and has been contributing to different voluntary work.

Dr HOANG Truong Giang

Dr Hoang Truong Giang is a Senior Lecturer and Assistant Head (Education and Outreach) at the Department of Chemistry, NUS.

His main interest is teaching and research in organic synthesis. He also has a keen interest in experiential learning to help students familiarise themselves with the diverse socio-cultural-economic environments in the Southeast Asia region and in the world.

He is a meditation practitioner and an outdoor person. He enjoys hiking and exploring different hiking trails.  In his free time, he enjoys reading and good coffee.


A/Prof Dan McALLISTER

Associate Professor Dan McALLISTER is a faculty member in the Department of Management & Organisation at the NUS Business School. His research is focused on interpersonal dynamics in the workplace, and he teaches courses on leadership and managerial decision-making.

Dan enjoys being around students and has been involved in residence life at NUS for over 7 years.  During his free time, he enjoys tinkering with tech, music, and racquet sports.

Dr Mark GAN Joo Seng

Dr Mark GAN is Associate Director at the Centre for Development of Teaching and Learning (CDTL), where he works closely with faculty members to enhance teaching and learning in NUS. As an educational developer, Mark helps colleagues from different faculties and schools in developing their teaching portfolios, writing proposals for educational grants and awards and collaborating on teaching inquiry projects. He also supports undergraduate, postgraduate and full-time teaching assistants to develop and improve their teaching practices.

Mark’s main research interest is in feedback and its effect on teaching and learning. He holds a PhD in Education from the University of Auckland, supervised by Professor John Hattie.

During his free time, he likes reading, playing basketball and learning how to be better at watercolour painting.

Ms May KOH

Ms May KOH is Senior Manager who serves as a student support manager at the Science Dean’s Office at the Faculty of Science. She was a Resident Fellow at Ridge View Residential College (RVRC) for seven years.

May’s career at NUS started in facility management with Housing Services before pivoting to residential life managing housing accommodation, student life, finance, maintenance, and human resource at RVRC. She has a Master’s degree in counselling and is constantly finding novel and interesting ways to promote student wellness in both faculty and residential settings.

In her personal time,May enjoys watching Korean dramas, travelling, and baking. Do walk around her neighbourhood and who knows, you may get a treat from her!

Dr Rafi RASHID

Dr Rafi RASHID has a joint appointment as Senior Lecturer at the NUS Graduate School and Tembusu College where he also serves as Associate Director of Studies. Concurrently, he is the Staff Advisor of the NUS Muslim Society. 

Rafi has been at NUS ever since he matriculated as an international student in 2002. He stayed at PGPR for 4 years as an undergraduate and is excited about moving back to campus as a Residential Fellow. In this capacity, he looks forward to helping students enrich their learning beyond what is possible in the classroom. He is particularly interested in training students how to improve their communication skills, engage in interdisciplinary inquiry, and recognize the importance of ethical decision-making in everyday life.  

As an active researcher, Rafi collaborates with local and overseas colleagues to study the role of bacterial lipids in antimicrobial resistance (AMR), which the World Health Organization has declared a serious global health problem. This research inspired him to take his teaching to a global audience via an EdX Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) called “Microbiomes and Sustainability”. 

Rafi spends most of his free time with his 2 young children, aged 7 and 2. He likes walking, reading, and volunteering at non-profit organizations.

Mr Desmond KOH

Desmond KOH was Manager at Faculty of Law managing Academic Affairs matters prior to joining Helix House. Before joining National University of Singapore (NUS), Desmond worked in various educational institutions handling admissions, events, hostel operations etc. 

Desmond is highly interested in youth and leadership development and enjoys interaction with youth from different backgrounds. 

In his free time, Desmond enjoys reading fantasy novels and is a casual gamer. He was also an active volunteer working with various children and youth organizations.

Ms Hazirah Halim

Hazirah Halim is a dynamic and driven individual with a passion for customer relations. With over 5 years of experience in various roles, Hazirah has honed her skills in nurturing positive relationships with her stakeholders.

As a Senior Executive, Hazirah has consistently demonstrated her ability to be a wonderful listening ear to her peers and clients alike. Her natural problem-solving abilities, coupled with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to delivering high-standard output, have made her an invaluable asset to her team. In 2018, Hazirah served as a Facilities Management Officer in King Edward VII Hall, where she played a crucial role in Housing Services.

Outside of work, Hazirah finds joy in exploring different genres of Korean dramas, reading articles on psychology, and keeping up with the latest marketing and e-commerce tips and trends. This diverse range of interests has helped her develop a well-rounded perspective and a creative approach to problem-solving. Walk up to her for a quick hi!
