Welcome to the Helix House website!
Academic Year 2025/2026 will mark our third year of welcoming new residents to Helix House. After two full years of operation, we have gained a deeper understanding of what our residents value and the unique “DNA that binds” our community together.
We offer three main types of activities and opportunities for our community to learn and bond: Signature Events led by Resident Fellows and the Master; block and floor activities organised by Resident Assistants (RAs), Floor Leaders (FLs), and Block Committees; and Interest Groups (IGs) led by residents. Besides these, there have been House-wide new sustainability efforts initiated such as the Helix Community Library, Coastal Clean-up, and a door hanger campaign initiated by A/Prof Stephen Tay to raise awareness and encourage energy-saving habits among residents.
The RF-led Signature events offer experiential learning opportunities. In the past academic year, there were 14 such events, ranging from themes including culture and heritage (e.g., Kampung Glam Heritage Trail, Harmony in Diversity Tour), health and wellness (e.g., Helix Goes to Hort Park, Drum Fitness), and diversity (e.g., Dialogue in the Dark). Additionally, several walls and staircases have also been transformed with murals as part of Our Homescape: Wall Mural Painting. Our annual community engagement initiative, Helix Always Cares!, continued to make a positive impact. We also hosted conversations on a variety of engaging topics and with notable individuals, such as Carbon Trading, Cheatsheet on Internship, Leather Crafting. Besides these, our Resident Fellow, Dr Giang, leads an annual experiential trip to Hanoi, Vietnam.
On top of an average of two floor events and three block events every semester, at present, there are 25 Interest Groups (IGs), each led by passionate and committed residents. The range of IGs is diverse, and we continue to encourage residents to propose and establish new IGs that reflect the community’s evolving interests.
HeART (Helix Art) and Helix Crochet gather not only to share their passion for arts and crafts, but also to give back to our community. Each year, they extend their creativity by gifting their handmade creations to our everyday heroes—cleaners, housekeepers, and maintenance crew—at our annual Appreciate Lunch.
In less than two years, Helix Band has established itself as a respected ensemble. Collaborating with residents from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (YSTCM), their “Classical Rebellion” concert was a resounding success, drawing an enthusiastic audience of residents, parents, friends, and guests from the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) and YSTCM.
Nearly every week during the semester, we have the pleasure of enjoying both classic favourites and innovative new beverages from Helix Bean & Leaf.
The industrious and innovative Helix Gardening team has developed self-designed automated irrigation and water catchment systems that are not only highly functional, sustainable, and cost-effective, but also serve as exemplary models for others to follow.
Helix Publicity and Helix Photography are the pillars of our outreach efforts, with their presence spanning both print and social media platforms—from photos and videos to write-ups.
Dance, board games, heritage, baking and sports and wellness related IGs constitute the rest of the current IGs at Helix House, enhancing vibrancy and inclusiveness.
Through these activities, events, and experiential learning opportunities, we aspire for our residents to achieve a healthy balance among academic demands, personal and family commitments, and individual wellness.
We invite you to browse our website to learn more about us, and we look forward to welcoming both our returning senior residents and new residents to our community.
