Experience : Backyard Explorations
Change is the only constant in Singapore, as they say. Even though rapid development has taken hold of Singapore, remnants of our heritage can still be found around the country.
On 7th October, a group of residents embarked on a cultural and heritage trail, seeking to discover unexpected historical landmarks around the vicinity of Helix House. The trail, spanning the Dover-Ghim Moh-Holland Village-Portsdown areas, proved to be a captivating and enlightening experience. The trail brought the residents through a plethora of intriguing and peaceful locations that had previously remained undiscovered. A visit to a serene Chinese temple, for instance, provided valuable insights into the rich cultural heritage and tradition of the area. Additionally, participants were educated about the ecological significance of various plants, fostering a deeper appreciation for the local environment.
The trail fostered friendships, as residents from diverse backgrounds and nationalities had the opportunity to engage in conversations with one another. They learned plenty from each other too, as the variety of stories shared by residents from different backgrounds further enriched the learning experience of the trail. Ultimately, the heritage trail seamlessly integrated education and cultural exploration, resulting in a memorable and enriching Saturday morning escapade.
