On 17th September 2024, Helix House hosted a Conversation with Owen Choo Wen Yi, an insightful session where residents had the opportunity to hear about Wen Yi’s fascinating career shift from industrial systems engineering to carbon trading. 

Held from 7:30pm to 8:30pm, the event provided Helixians with valuable lessons on sustainability, adaptability, and career growth.

Wen Yi, an NUS graduate with a background in engineering and finance, began his career in BP’s Trader Development Programme before transitioning into carbon markets. He shared his passion for sustainability and explained how he found his niche in trading carbon credits. Currently serving as the carbon trading lead at Hengli Petrochemical International, Wen Yi emphasized the growing importance of sustainable solutions in today’s industries.

Beyond his career, Wen Yi also spoke candidly about personal growth, mountain climbing, and poker, drawing parallels between these hobbies and the strategic thinking needed for his work. His advice on navigating career choices and the importance of following one’s interests deeply resonated with attendees.

The event ended with a lively Q&A session, where Helixians eagerly engaged with Wen Yi’s insights on both career and life.
