Orientation 2024: Unraveling the Mystery, Building a Community
The 2024 Helix House Orientation saw around 300 residents participating in a three-day event, 5 August to 7 August 2024, that was equal parts mystery and adventure. Building on the success of last year’s inaugural orientation, this year's event introduced an exciting new theme that kept everyone on their toes—a mystery game where Helixians had to uncover hidden culprits within their midst.
Theme: A Thrilling Mystery
In this year’s main event, Helixians were divided into groups, each tasked with unmasking two secret culprits among them who were committing crimes all throughout Helix House. To do so, participants had to earn points and clues by completing various games, all while deciphering clues provided through a series of videos. The suspense built steadily over the three days, culminating in a dramatic reveal on the final day.
The orientation’s first day began with "Helix Hunt", a game designed to familiarize participants with the key locations around Helix House. Armed with 18 clues, each group set out on a mission to find puzzle pieces scattered throughout the house. The second day was all about strengthening bonds and building camaraderie. Participants engaged in a series of bonding games, followed by an intense scavenger hunt that had everyone scurrying across campus in search of hidden treasures. On the final day, participants gathered for Music Night at the centre of the MPSH, where they enjoyed live performances by the Helix Band. The evening was a mix of relaxation and excitement, as the final pieces of the mystery fell into place. The atmosphere was one of excitement as groups made their final guesses about the culprits, with everyone eagerly anticipating the big reveal.
A Community Forged
The 2024 Helix House orientation served as the start of a new academic year for Helixians. The shared experience of solving a mystery, coupled with the bonds formed through teamwork and competition, has set the stage for a vibrant and connected community.
Looking forward, Helixians will continue to build on the spirit of unity and camaraderie fostered during the orientation. With interest groups and house events already in motion, the Helix House community is poised to grow even stronger, with each resident contributing to the unique DNA that makes Helix House a true home away from home.
