Delve into the Diversity in Singapore: Harmony in Diversity Tour

On 21st September 2024, a group of Helix Residents participated in a ‘Harmony in Diversity’ Tour organised by Block 19’s Resident Fellow, Dr Rafi Rashid. The tour brought participants through indoor and outdoor guided tours which gave insights to the diverse cultures in Singapore. The tour guides, Mr Peter and Ms Regina were thorough in their explanation which made the tour an enriching one! Participants were taught the importance of respect towards our multi-racial and multi-religion society.

The group was given a walk-through into the history of the Telok Ayer area since the 1800s. ‘Telok Ayer’ which means Water Bay in the Malay Language was a representation of the trading and harbour activities that happened during the early days of Singapore which brought in many migrants, such as the Indians, Chinese, Malays and even the Arabs, which shaped the ethnicities that were found in the area back then and till now.

Participants were then guided through an indoor tour in the Harmony Diversity Gallery which was a religion-based walkthrough. The tour gave valuable lessons to the participants as it raised awareness to the 10 most common religions in Singapore - Islam, Hinduism, Christianity, Buddhism, Baha’i Faith, Jainism, Judaism, Sikhism, Taoism and Zoroastrianism.
