Experience : Breakfast with Provost and Dean of Students
On 15th September, the Residential Assistants (RAs) had the incredible opportunity to have a discussion over breakfast with the Provost Prof. Thean and Dean of Students A/Prof. Ho. The agenda of this meeting was twofold; to allow the RAs to gain deeper insights into the University's vision and for the RAs to address crucial housing matters raised by the residents.
The culture of Helix House was the primary topic of discussion, with the RAs and the University officials bouncing ideas off one another on ways to differentiate Helix from other residential options. They envisioned Helix House to be a nurturing, vibrant and inclusive campus residential community that encourages intermingling and mutual learning among students from diverse backgrounds. The topic of sportsmanship and entrepreneurship was also discussed, with the idea of promoting these values through the presence of N-house students or sports students, as well as through the establishment of more sports or entrepreneurship interest groups (IGs).
In addition to discussing the vision for Helix House, the RAs took the opportunity to address pressing housing concerns raised by their residents. The Provost and Dean listened patiently to their suggestions and concerns, clarifying any details or questions to gain a thorough understanding of the issues faced by students. They responded immediately and elaborated on some of their planned actions to address these concerns.
Overall, the breakfast meeting with the Provost and Dean was an enlightening experience for the RAs, providing valuable insights into the University's vision for holistic student development and inclusive residential life. It empowered them to continue their commitment to improving the residential experience at Helix House, with a deeper understanding of the vision for the house and a renewed determination to make it an even better place for all residents.
