NUS Internship-As-A-Service (IAAS): The Future of Work with the Gig Economy

You have probably heard of the term gig economy, which refers to a growing trend of businesses and independent workers entering into short-term labour agreements.

In the gig economy, we often see digital platforms that connect freelancers with potential clients for short-term jobs, contracted work, or asset-sharing. It encompasses everything from private tuition to food delivery to freelance services like photography, graphic design, and IT support. Fiverr, TaskRabbit, and Handy are three well-known platforms where you can find business consultants, bloggers, social media specialists, and a variety of other freelancers.

This workshop will provide insights on what the gig economy is, why it may prove useful for you, and how you could participate in it.

Look forward to learning about:

  • The characteristics of the gig economy
  • Pros and cons of freelancing in the gig economy
  • Gig experience sharing by NUS students
  • Utilising NUS Internship-As-A-Service (IAAS), the University’s two-sided gigs marketplace
