Problem Statement
Getting career-ready can be challenging for students as they transition from university to the workforce. Many students struggle with self-discovery, career planning, life skills development and identifying opportunities that align with their strengths and aspirations.
The NUS Centre for Future-ready Graduates (CFG), provides students with a wide range of career services and resources that they can utilise for their career journeys. However, students may find it difficult to fully engage with these tools and services or understand how to apply them to their individual career journeys.
Your task is to create an interactive game using Twine, a simple and free-to-use platform that highlights various CFG pillars of support available to NUS students:
- Holistic Learning: Explore life skills development through CFG-facilitated courses and programmes, NUSOne, and global initiatives like the NUS Global Internship Programme (NGIP) and Global Industry Insights (GII).
- Career Advisory: Support from CFG’s certified Career Advisors either through group/individual coaching sessions and thematic career clinics.
- Industry Insights & Experience: Showcase real-world exposure opportunities through internships, networking, mentorship, and recruitment events that connect students with employers and industry professionals.
- Career Preparation Courses: Spotlight structured programmes like Career Catalyst and Advancement that help students build strategic, actionable career plans.
- Tech-forward Career Resources: Highlight digital tools, AI-powered platforms, and CFG’s virtual career resources that empower students to self-assess, explore job opportunities, and stay ahead in a competitive job market.
All referenced content for the game design must be either from the NUS CFG Website and/or other relevant CFG sources.
The game should be engaging and informative, to help students:
- Understand the career resources available to them and how these align with their professional goals.
- Identify and explore CFG various programmes designed to develop critical key life and career skills throughout their time at NUS.
- Adopt technological tools provided by NUS CFG that can assist them in career planning, self-assessment, and job search strategies.
Platform
This challenge will involve the use of Twine as the game engine, a free-to-use, open-source tool for creating interactive, text-based stories and games. Twine allows participants to craft non-linear narratives, making it ideal for designing immersive experiences. It does not require prior coding knowledge to use the platform.
Participants also are encouraged to incorporate AI tools to enhance the visual aspects of their game. These tools can be used to create custom graphics, illustrations, or other visual assets that can support the game’s storyline and themes.
Deliverable
The deliverable should include the final HTML file from Twine and any supporting assets. The proposed game is encouraged to incorporate AI-generated assets, and/or story elements to enhance the game experience. Your submission should provide a clear, concise narrative whilst reflecting CFG’s mission of empowering students in their career journeys, from self-discovery to exploration to planning and execution.
Total gameplay duration should be less than 15 minutes, and all files must adhere to the specified file size limits (< 50mb).
Participants must also provide a short write-up (maximum 750 words) explaining the game concept, how it aligns with the CFG Career Roadmap, and the ways in which AI was used to create assets, storylines, or other game elements.
Eligibility:
The competition is open to NUS undergraduate students from all courses of study.
Format:
The challenge only accepts solo submissions, meaning each participant must work independently to design, develop, and submit their Twine game.
