In this session, we will start from the basics to introduce the sector, explain its role in the wider economy and impact on individual businesses. From the perspective of a company, we will explain capital raising in the primary markets, trading in the secondary markets, as well as the financial aspects of running a multi-national business.
This session will help you:
- Gain an understanding of the Banking & Finance industry
- Be more familiar with the structure of a typical bank
- Gain a glimpse into the types of banking services that multi-national companies use
- Identify possible job roles and careers based on skills & interests
- Learn how to prepare for internships and careers in this sector

Lee Shin Yin
Deputy Director, LifeSkills Development
NUS Centre for Future-ready Graduates
Shin leads the LifeSkills Development team and oversees the career advisory teams at the School of Computing and the College of Humanities and Sciences. In this role, she leads the design and delivery of a suite of life skills programmes, as well as serves as a Career Advisor in the School of Computing. Prior to joining CFG, Shin was already an active volunteer in CFG programmes including the Global Mentorship Programme, Women’s Professional Development, and CommsLab.
Prior to joining NUS, Shin spent almost 20 years in the banking and finance industry. After graduating with a degree in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College London, she started her career with UBS Investment Bank in London. She later joined Pictet Asset Management where she spent 15 years, latterly as Chief Executive Officer of Pictet Asset Management in Singapore. Before joining Pictet, Shin spent a year as the Programme Director of SEO London, a non-profit organisation which serves university students from underrepresented backgrounds.

Raymond Wong
Career Advisor, NUS Centre for Future-ready Graduates
Raymond spent 19 years in the Finance Services sector; mainly in the Corporate Banking space servicing SME to Wholesale Banking customers as a Cash Management Product Manager. Stepping away from this industry to pursue his other passion in the music retail industry, eventually led him to another passion: the desire to work with people and making a difference in one’s life. 4 years (and counting) as a Career Advisor with NUS, he has coached various groups of students, from mid-careerists to Postgraduates and now FASS undergraduates.
