Curious about the banking and finance industry but unsure where to begin? This session will walk you through the fundamentals: how the sector works, its role in the global economy, and how financial institutions support businesses at every stage of growth.
From a company’s perspective, students will learn how capital is raised in primary markets, how trading happens in secondary markets, and how multinational organisations manage their financial operations.
This session will help you:
- Understand the Banking & Finance industry and its key functions.
- Become familiar with the structure of a typical bank.
- Gain insights into banking services commonly used by multinational companies.
- Explore possible job roles based on your skills and interests.
- Learn how to prepare for internships and full-time roles in this sector.

Lee Shin Yin
Deputy Director, LifeSkills Development
NUS Centre for Future-ready Graduates
Shin leads the LifeSkills Development team and oversees the career advisory teams at the School of Computing and the College of Humanities and Sciences. In this role, she leads the design and delivery of a suite of life skills programmes, as well as serves as a Career Advisor in the School of Computing. Prior to joining CFG, Shin was already an active volunteer in CFG programmes including the Global Mentorship Programme, Women’s Professional Development, and CommsLab.
Prior to joining NUS, Shin spent almost 20 years in the banking and finance industry. After graduating with a degree in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College London, she started her career with UBS Investment Bank in London. She later joined Pictet Asset Management where she spent 15 years, latterly as Chief Executive Officer of Pictet Asset Management in Singapore. Before joining Pictet, Shin spent a year as the Programme Director of SEO London, a non-profit organisation which serves university students from underrepresented backgrounds.

Raymond Wong
Career Advisor, NUS Centre for Future-ready Graduates
Raymond spent 19 years in the Finance Services sector; mainly in the Corporate Banking space servicing SME to Wholesale Banking customers as a Cash Management Product Manager. Stepping away from this industry to pursue his other passion in the music retail industry, eventually led him to another passion: the desire to work with people and making a difference in one’s life. 4 years (and counting) as a Career Advisor with NUS, he has coached various groups of students, from mid-careerists to Postgraduates and now FASS undergraduates.
