Discover+ SOCIAL SERVICES | As Singapore responds to evolving social needs in an ageing, diverse, and increasingly complex society, the social services sector stands at the heart of our social resilience and inclusive growth. Encompassing areas such as social work, community development, family services, eldercare, mental health, and disability support, the sector plays a critical role in supporting individuals and strengthening communities across life stages.
Backed by strong government commitment and partnerships with voluntary welfare organisations (VWOs), social enterprises, and community groups, Singapore has developed a professionalised social service ecosystem. Flagship initiatives such as the Enabling Masterplan, Community Networks for Seniors, Family Justice and Protection frameworks, and expanded community care and mental health services reflect Singapore’s shift towards preventive and community-based care. Institutions like the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF), Agency for Integrated Care (AIC), and Social Service Agencies (SSAs) continue to drive innovation in data-informed interventions and cross-sector collaboration.
As Singapore strengthens its social compact and invests in long-term social sustainability, opportunities are growing for social workers, case managers, counsellors, programme designers, policy analysts, and community leaders across public, private, and non-profit sectors. While many students recognise the importance of social services, they may have limited exposure to the sector’s diverse careers and how best to prepare themselves to contribute meaningfully. Therefore, Advisory hopes to connect students with an interest in such work with professionals in the field through Discover+: Social Services.
