Building NUS’ Libraries of the Future – Today
Mrs Peggy Wai Chee Leong-Hochstadt (1935 - 1991) served as the first Chief Librarian of the NUS Library from 1980 till her retirement in July 1991. She began her career as a library assistant at the University of Malaya in 1960 and served the library with distinction.
The growth and development of the library owed much to her professional capabilities and fine leadership. She was instrumental in the library’s early embrace of information technology that made possible the many benefits enjoyed by users of the library today.
Mrs Hochstadt was an intellectual, a scholar and an excellent administrator. She commanded the admiration, respect and affection of not only her staff but also that of her academic and administrative peers in the university and the library fraternity.
She will always be remembered for her warm and caring ways and ready sense of humour.
In memory of Mrs. Peggy Wai Chee Leong-Hochstadt, the family donated a list of titles in August 2013.
