This workshop on visualisation techniques offers a comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of data visualisation, focusing on key principles and best practices for turning complex data into compelling visuals.

The Data Insights series is designed to equip you with the vital skills to harness the power of data effectively. From the initial stages of data discovery and finding to the final phases of data visualisation, each workshop addresses key components crucial for extracting meaningful insights from raw datasets.

  • How to create clear and impactful representations of data, including geospatial data
  • The basics to create maps using real data in QGIS

Preparation for Participants

  • Please download and install the QGIS 3.34 (64-bit) program unto your laptop. Navigate to the appropriate OS type that you are using (i.e. Windows / macOS). Download the Long Term Version 3.34 which is the most stable version and would function well.

  • Prior to the workshop, please ensure that you are able to run the installation file and open up QGIS on your laptop. Please bring your laptop and the charger.

Lyndia conducts workshops and advisories on social science research. She also works with immersive technology as part of the library’s TEL Imaginarium team. When in her element, she is fascinated by geeky tech, neon lights, all things new, and finds humour or cats in the strangest of things.

With a background in environmental geography and experience in urban planning, Michelle is interested in the different ways of applying geospatial techniques across various disciplines. She enjoys speaking with students and researchers about their projects and helping them with geospatial/data visualisation enquires. She also loves classical music, reading, and hiking.

All NUS staff and students are welcome.
