Chope-Step1

Chope-Step2

Chope-Step3

  1. How long can I chope a seat for?
You can chope a maximum of six one-hour slots per day, either in discrete and separate one-hour slots, or in a single six-hour block.

  2. Why is there a daily six-slot limit?
NUS Libraries and the uNivUS team are piloting the use of Chope@NUS to help us better manage the limited spaces we have. We believe that everyone should get a fair chance to chope a seat in our study areas, and as such the time limit is necessary to help manage demand, especially during peak periods. We are continuously monitoring usage and will adjust the daily booking limit if necessary.

  3. How come we can only chope one-hour slots at a time?
We’ve decided on one-hour slots based on user data derived from similar bookable spaces. We are constantly monitoring usage and will adjust the time limit if necessary.

  4. How far in advance can I chope a seat?
You may chope a seat up to 3 days in advance.

  5. How do I know if a seat has been choped?
If you’re at the seat, just scan the QR code on the table to check if that timeslot is available.
If you’re booking in advance, the app will show you which seats are available.

  6. What happens if I turn up late or can’t show up for my choped time slot?
If you did not check-in, your booking will be released after a grace period of 15 minutes. If you arrive within the first hour of your booking, please proceed to find an unoccupied seat. You can only book seats for the next hour onwards, subject to availability.

  7. I’m on-site now, and the empty seat I’m looking at is booked but doesn’t seem to be occupied. Can I take the seat?
You can occupy an empty seat if it’s booked, but you will have to vacate the seat if the user with the reservation shows up.

  8. I’ve choped a seat but I need to step away for a while. Can I just leave my stuff at the seat?
Life happens, we get it. Sometimes you just need to stretch your legs, sometimes a call might take longer than expected. However, we do encourage you to bring your belongings with you if you think you’ll have to step away for more than a few minutes. If you do leave your belongings at your seat, do know that you run the risk of having the items removed from the table – especially if your time runs out and it’s another user’s turn to use the space.

  9. Can I not leave my stuff at my choped seat if I have to step away?
We do encourage you not to leave your belongings unattended – in case your chope turns into a kope*! That said, other users might take your seat while you’re away, but as long as your booking is still valid, you have the right to ask them to relinquish the seat to you. You might also want to consider leaving a note on the table to let other users know you’ve stepped away and will be back shortly.

    *slang for “stolen” or “removed”

  10. Why aren’t there more seats available for booking?
Chope@NUS is currently undergoing a test run, and we’ll be assessing how best to roll this out to the rest of our libraries based on what we learn from this pilot. Stay tuned!

  • Users with a valid Chope@NUS booking will have priority use of the selected space.
  • If you do not show up and check-in for your selected timeslot, the booking will be released after a grace period of 15 mins.
  • Personal belongings will be removed if left unattended for extended periods.
