Read. Collect. Write. The Joy of a Life with Books — Lin Zhen Manuscript Donation & Digital Repository Launch

The event will be conducted in Mandarin. AI translation in English will be provided.

NUS Libraries is honoured to receive a generous donation of over 1,000 manuscripts written by the late Lin Zhen (1937–2024), a veteran Singaporean writer. This addition to NUS Libraries’ collections deepens our efforts in preserving Singapore’s literary heritage, and will support teaching, learning, and research, in NUS and beyond.

Born Tan Kuk Oon in Singapore, he worked as a librarian and cataloguer at the University of Singapore Library, and later as a newspaper reporter and editor, before entering the business world. His creative work spanned essays, modern poetry, prose, short stories, literary criticism, and translations. He published seven books and edited over ten volumes of literary works.

Read. Collect. Write. marks the donation of Lin Zhen's manuscripts and the launch of a digital archive, making his work more accessible and inspiring future readers and writers.

Join us as we celebrate Lin Zhen’s legacy of reading, collecting, and writing. Highlights will include a manuscript donation ceremony, a themed seminar with invited speakers, an exhibition of the manuscripts, and a chance to connect with literary friends and peers over refreshments.
