Database Migration: LawNet

Friday, October 3, 2025

4 Apr 2026

This update concerns the current status of our access to LawNet.

  1. We presently still have access to LawNet 4.0 via its current URL (https://libproxy1.nus.edu.sg/login?url=https://sit-one.lawnet.com/auth/ip-auth/login) which doesn’t include a functional AI feature.
  2. The duration of this current URL’s access is tied to when the new LawNet 4.0 url is ready.
  3. The new LawNet 4.0 URL is taking longer than anticipated to be ready with a tentative start date of 12 April 2026.

In view of the above, our access to the current LawNet 4.0 URL may end before, on or after 12 April 2026.

We will continue to monitor the situation and post updates in advance whenever possible.

For any enquiries about access to LawNet, please email clbfrm02@nus.edu.sg

We apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding.

News on the new URL will be shared once the new URL is accessible and ready for use.

LawNet is migrating to LawNet 4.0, with a new design and improved search features.

What’s New & Improved

  • Redesigned Search Experience  – Classic search now accepts Boolean operators and natural language queries (e.g. “elements of fraudulent misrepresentation in contract law”)  – Type-ahead suggestions as you type titles
  • Enhanced Search Relevance Algorithm  – Prioritisation of matches in catchwords, facts, holdings over body content  – Boosting based on court hierarchy, case treatments, content type
  • Results & Filters  – Infinite scroll (results load as you scroll)  – “Back to Top” button for convenient navigation  – Improved filtering (by content type, jurisdiction, date ranges)
  • Document Previews & In-page Navigation  – Preview documents before entering full view  – Tabs for Details, Text Match, Facts, Holdings, Content  – Highlighted search terms in blue within documents  – “Traffic light” indicators to show how later cases treated a judgment (e.g. green = followed)
  • LawNet AI Q&A-Based Search (In Progress)  – Ask queries in natural language (e.g. “What are the elements of misrepresentation?”)  – Responses will be generated with sourcing; model is experimental and uses RAG + LLM tuned for legal domain
  • Legislation Module (In Progress)  – Launches initially with the Companies Act (as of 4 March 2024), with more legislations added progressively  – Legislation pages include table of contents, reference tracing to judgments, etc. with the Companies Act, more laws will be added over time.
