Mental Health in Practice: Shaping Minds, Bridging Generations

According to the National Youth Mental Health Study released in 2024 by the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), about 1 in 4 youths experience anxiety, while 1 in 7 report symptoms of depression.

Wish to better understand or support someone living with mental illness? A new textbook, Practise Psychiatry — A Guide through Vignettes and MCQs, covers a broad spectrum of psychiatric disorders, from the familiar (anxiety, insomnia, depression) to the lesser-discussed (schizophrenia, addiction, gender dysphoria).

Written by three generations of psychiatrists from the National University Hospital (NUH), the book combines fresh exam insights, clinical expertise, and mentorship wisdom into one invaluable resource. Join us in a dialogue with the authors to hear first-hand account of the fascinating stories behind the book.

Following that, engage in a fireside chat with leaders in psychiatry care, research, education, and national mental health advocacy. Together, we'll explore:

  • How Singapore's mental health landscape is evolving
  • Practical ways technology can enhance psychiatric practice
  • How to apply lessons from the authors’ journey in your personal and professional capacity

Our librarians will also be sharing psychiatry resources, accompanied by a curated book display featuring seminal works on psychiatry and mental health in Singapore—all from our collection.

You are also invited to explore exciting booths comprising both digital and physical activity including book signing, photo booth, live painting and more. The event will conclude with a light reception for in-person attendees.

This event is co-organised by our librarians, Wong Suei Nee and Patrick Pu.
