Cultural Connections: A Helix Tour of Masjid Jamae Chulia
On 15th February 2025, Helixians embarked on a culturally educational journey a guided tour of Masjid Jamae Chulia, one of Singapore’s oldest mosques. The tour was led by Dr Rafi Rashid, Block 19 Resident Fellow, who is also an expert in Islamic knowledge and traditions. Participants were offered a unique opportunity to explore the mosque and deepen their understanding of Islam.
During the visit, Helixians learned about the mosque’s rich history and its significance to the early Chulia Muslim community. Dr Rafi shared insights Islamic traditions, key religious practices, and the architectural influences of the mosque, sparking meaningful discussions among participants.
Beyond its historical significance, the tour also emphasized the importance of respect and inclusivity in Singapore’s diverse society. Helixians gained a deeper appreciation for Islamic customs, from prayer rituals to community practices, fostering greater understanding of Singapore’s multi-religious heritage.
This signature event has not only broadened residents’ perspectives but also highlighted the importance of cultural understanding in building a more connected community. Helixians returned from the tour with valuable insights and a renewed appreciation for Singapore’s rich cultural heritage.
