Economic Society of Singapore Medal

The Economic Society of Singapore offers a medal annually to be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies, on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners, to the best graduate in the Applied and Policy Specialisation (Economics) in the Honours examination for the degree of Bachelor of Social Sciences. The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to Rule 3 below, a gold medal will be awarded to the best graduate with the highest
    Grade Point Average (GPA) in the Applied and Policy Specialisation (Economics) in the Honours examination for the degree of Bachelor of Social Sciences. In the event of a tie, the overall performance in the courses specific to the Applied and Policy Specialisation (Economics) will be considered.
  2. The medal will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulations.

 

Edmund Tay Mai Hiong Medal

The Edmund Tay Mai Hiong Medal Fund was established in 1986 from donations received from students and graduates of the Faculty of Dentistry and colleagues and friends of Edmund Tay Mai Hiong, former Professor of Prosthetic Dentistry and former Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, to commemorate his retirement from the University. The proceeds from the capital sum of $10,600 will be used for the award of a gold medal annually to the best student in the Third Professional B.D.S. Examination.

  1. In the event the gold medal is not awarded, a bronze medal will be available for award to a candidate who satisfies the criteria laid down by the Faculty of Dentistry. Only one medal, either the gold or the bronze medal will be awarded in any one year.
  2. The medal is awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  3. In the event that the gold medal is not awarded, a bronze medal will be available for award to a candidate who satisfies the criteria laid down by the Faculty of Dentistry. Only one medal, either the gold medal or the bronze medal, will be awarded in any one year.

 

Elinor and Vincent Ostrom Prize

The proceeds of a capital sum of S$15,000, drawn from general donations to the LKYSPP are used for the award of the Elinor and Vincent Ostrom Prize. The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the prize is awarded to the best student in institutional analysis.
  2. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. The winner of the Elinor and Vincent Ostrom Prize for the best student in institutional analysis will receive a cash prize of S$200.
  5. The donation shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 and Regulation 12 Gifts to the University.

 

EMBA (Chinese) Intake 24 Reunion Prize 

In 2023, EMBA (Chinese) Intake 24 collectively donated an expendable gift of $20,000 to award 2 top graduating students from Executive MBA (Chinese) Programme.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 2 below, two cash prizes of $1,000 each will be awarded as follows:
    1. Best academic results based on GPA calculations of the following courses:
      1. BMC5021 - Leadership: Exploration, assessment and development
      2. BMC5022 – Strategy
      3. BMC5023 - Business analytics and decision making
      4. BMC5026 – Marketing Strategy
      5. BMC5038 - Managing organizations and change
    2. Completed the programme within 2 years.
  2. No prize will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  3. The prizes will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of a Selection Committee from the NUS Business School. The Committee comprises the Dean and/or the Vice Dean (MBA Programmes) of the School of Business, Executive MBA Programs Office, and Head of Departments and/or a nominee of the Dean of the School of Business.
  4. If no prize is made in any year, the unutilised amount will be added to the fund.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 and Regulation 12 on Gifts to the University.

 

Environmental Engineering Society of Singapore Medal

Donated in 1993 by Cheong Heng Aquatics Enterprise and KYC Machine Industry, the medal is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000.

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the medal will be awarded annually to a student in the Department of Civil Engineering who obtains the highest aggregate marks for all compulsory subjects in Environmental Engineering in the B.Eng. Examinations.
  2. The award will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Head of the Department of Civil Engineering.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.

 

Ernst & Young Prize

Starting from the session 1989-90, Ernst & Young donated annually a sum of $10,000 over a period of five years for the award of research grants to full-time MBA candidates working on their Advanced Study Projects. At the end of the five-year period, only seven grants of $5,000 each had been awarded, leaving a balance of $15,000. In 1997, Ernst & Young agreed to divert this balance of $15,000 to establish a cash prize fund. The proceeds of the capital sum of $15,000 are used for the award of the Ernst & Young Prize.

The prize is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the prize is awarded to the graduate with the best performance in the course “Financial Management”, who must have also performed well in the overall examination for the degree of Master of Business Administration.
  2. The Prize will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of a Selection Committee comprising the Dean and the Vice Dean (Graduate Studies) of the School of Business, MBA Academic Director of the MBA Programs Office, Head of Departments and a nominee of the Dean of the School of Business.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Eugene Seah Medal and Prize

In 2012, Mr. Seah Hsiu-Min, Eugene pledged an endowed gift of $75,000 to establish the Eugene Seah Medal and Prize for students in the Bachelor of Science (Project and Facilities Management) programme at the Department of Building in the School of Design and Environment.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 4 below, a gold medal and cash prize of $1,000 will be awarded annually to a graduating student in the Bachelor of Science (Project and Facilities Management) programme who has
    1. obtained at least an Honours (Distinction); and
    2. achieved the highest combined average grade point for PF2103 Measurement (Building Works) and PF3207 Project Management Law.
  2. The medal and prize will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. In the event of a tie between two candidates, the award will be given to the student with the highest overall GPA.
  4. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Eusoff College Medal

With the closing of Eusoff College in March 2001, several ex-residents of Eusoff College set up a fund to establish a medal to commemorate and perpetuate the name of Eusoff College (1958 – 2001) and to recognize a Eusoffian for his/her overall outstanding academic performance and contributions to Hall activities.

A gold medal, named “Eusoff College Medal” will be awarded using proceeds from a capital of $30,000, a substantial amount of which was funds raised by the alumnae of Eusoff College and an amount received from Eusoff Hall Reserves (to which a portion of the funds accruing to Eusoff College Reserves upon closure of Eusoff College had been transferred in 2002).

The award will be governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the medal is awarded to a candidate who
    1. has good academic performance and must have passed the final examination leading to a degree with at least an Honours (Distinction).
    2. has excellent leadership and made outstanding contributions to Hall activities, and must have received at least a Hall Merit Award during his/her residency in Eusoff Hall.
    3. has at least one academic year of residency or equivalent in Eusoff Hall.
  2. Prior to release of the final examination results, a Selection Committee comprising the Master and the Resident Fellows of Eusoff Hall will identify three to five nominees. Based the final examination results, the top student will be recommended for award.
  3. The medal will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies
  4. Normally only one award will be given annually. However, in exceptional years, no more than 2 awards may be made.
  5. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit .
  6. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Excellence in Computing Medal & Prize

In March 2007, Professor Yuen Chung Kwong, Professor in the Department of Computer Science, School of Computing, proposed to donate part of the outstanding sum in his ASPF account to NUS for the purpose of creating an annual award of a gold medal and prize for top Singaporean BComp graduate. His remaining ASPF after setting aside an expendable amount of $S36,000 for the award of bursaries to Computing undergraduates will be at least S$35,184.01. The expendable sum from the proceeds of this capital sum will be used for a gold medal and a cash prize of S$500 to be awarded from the academic year 2008/2009 or earlier subject to the availability of the proceeds.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the medal and prize will be awarded to the top Singaporean graduate throughout the course of study for the Bachelor of Computing (Honours) in the School of Computing.
  2. The award will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. If there is no award made in any year, the funds available will be carried forward to provide for awards in subsequent years to as many deserving Singaporean candidates as possible.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

ExxonMobil Medals & Prizes 

Set up in 1995 by ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Private Limited, a gold medal and cash prize are awarded from the endowed gift of $15,000. The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, a gold medal and cash prize of $500 each will be awarded to:
    1. The best third year student in Chemical Engineering;
    2. The best final year student in Chemical Engineering; and
    3. The best final year student in Mechanical Engineering
  2. The awards will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies or its nominee.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.
