ABN-AMRO Finance Prize

Donated in 2001 by ABN-AMRO Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd, a prize is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000. The prize is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the prize valued at $250, will be awarded to the student with the best aggregate GPA in finance for the degree of Master of Science (Financial Engineering).
  2. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.

 

Academy of Medicine Medal

Donated by the Academy of Medicine in 1989, a gold medal is awarded annually from the proceeds of a capital sum of $10, 000. In 2003, it was agreed that a cash prize may be awarded. The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 4 below, the gold medal is awarded to the best student with distinction in Pathology and Microbiology who has successfully completed the Second Professional B.D.S. Examination.
  2. The medal is awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. In the event that no student is eligible for award of a medal, a cash prize may be awarded to the student who obtains the highest mark and an 'A' grade for the subject.
  4. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  5. In the event of there being more than one candidate of equal merit, the Board of Examiners will take into consideration the performance of the candidates during the year as well as their examination results.
  6. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Academy of Medicine Medals

The Academy of Medicine Medals will be awarded annually based on the results of the First Professional Examination for the degrees of M.B.,B.S.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below,
    a. A silver medal will be awarded to the student who is fourth in the Examination.
    b. A bronze medal will be awarded to the student who is fifth in the Examination.
  2. The medals will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies or its nominee.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. In the event of there being more than one candidate of equal merit, the Board of Examiners will take into consideration the performance of the candidates during the year as well as their examination results.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Academy of Medicine, Singapore Medal for Outstanding Leadership

In February 2016, Academy of Medicine, Singapore (AMS) pledged a non-endowed gift of S$15,000 to Duke-NUS to establish the Academy of Medicine, Singapore Medal for Outstanding Leadership to honour outstanding Duke-NUS’ students who have demonstrated excellent leadership skills. The award winner will also have the opportunity to be engaged in AMS events and activities for further leadership development.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 2 and 3 below, a cash prize of S$1,000, a certificate and a medal, will be awarded annually to a graduating MD student who best demonstrates qualities of independence, initiative, resilience, and possesses qualities of leadership, passion and compassion. The following criteria will also be considered in the selection of awardee:
    1. Demonstrated exemplary character
    2. Have made significant contribution to the student and social communities
    3. Served as a true role model for peers
    4. Completed the final year examinations.
  2. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  3. The award is not open to students who have matched to a US residency program.
  4. Only a single winner will be chosen; there can be no tie.
  5. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Duke-NUS Awards Selection Committee.
  6. If no award is made in any year, the unutilised amount will be added to the fund.
  7. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Academy of Medicine, Singapore Medal for Outstanding Leadership

In 2022, Academy of Medicine, Singapore (AMS) pledged an expendable gift of S$15,000 to establish the Academy of Medicine, Singapore Medal and Prize for Outstanding Leadership to honour outstanding undergraduate medical students who have demonstrated excellent leadership skills.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, a cash prize of S$1,000 and a medal, will be awarded annually to an undergraduate medical student who best demonstrates qualities of independence, initiative, resilience, and possesses qualities of leadership, passion and compassion. The following criteria will also be considered in the selection of awardee:

ACCA Strategic Business Leader Prize

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is the global body for professional accountants. ACCA has more than 80 global partnerships with accountancy bodies, universities and international donor communities. Its mission is to be a global leader in the profession by: providing opportunity and open access to people of ability wherever they are in the world; supporting and promoting the highest ethical, governance and professional standards; and advancing public interest. Through its global network, students can study for the ACCA Qualification all over the world. They have 17 joint exam partnerships with national accountancy bodies around the world that allows their trainees to qualify using the ACCA Qualification structure.

In 2018, ACCA pledged an expendable sum of $15,000 to establish the ACCA Strategic Business Leader Prize to encourage Business students to have the conceptual and analytical skills necessary to make sound financial decisions for firms.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 2 below, a cash prize of $3,000 will be awarded in each academic year to the top performing student in the core course “Finance”.
  2. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  3. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies or its nominee.
  4. If no award is made in any year, the unutilised amount will be added to the fund.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Accenture Gold Medals and Prizes

Donated in 1992 by Anderson Consulting, a gold medal and prize is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000 to the best student successfully completing the programme leading to the Master of Technology (Software Engineering). It is not obligatory for the medal and prize to be awarded to the same candidate. The prize, in the form of cash, will be paid from the balance of the proceeds available after the purchase of the gold medal.

Subsequently in 2000, another $15,000 was donated for the award of a gold medal and a prize valued at $500 to a top student in the Bachelor of Computing (Honours) in Electronic Commerce programme. The award is for a period of 20 years beginning from the academic year 2001/2002.

In 2003, the donor agreed that if there is no deserving candidate in the Bachelor of Computing (Honours) in Electronic Commerce, the award will be made to another deserving candidate in another programme of study for Bachelor of Computing (Honours).

In 2023, Accenture donated $4,400 to NUS SoC, to increase the cash prize to $1,500 for to the top student in the Bachelor of Computing (Honours) programme. The award is for a period of 5 years beginning from the academic year 2023/2024

Both the awards are governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below,
    1. A gold medal and cash prize valued at $1,500 will be awarded to each of the best student for successfully completing the programme leading to the Bachelor of Computing (Honours) programme.
    2. A gold medal and cash prize valued at $250 will be given to the best student for successfully completing the programme leading to the Master of Technology (Software Engineering).
  2. As there are up to two intakes for the programme in an academic year and there will be a graduating batch at the end of each semester, up to two awards may be made in the same year.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. The award will be made by the Board of Graduate Studies for the Master of Technology (Software Engineering) award and the Board of Undergraduate Studies for the Bachelor of Computing (Honours) award on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Accenture Prize

Donated in 1988 by Arthur Andersen & Company, the prize is awarded from the proceeds of capital sum of $40,000 to a student in the best internship team in the Diploma in Systems Analysis course.

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, a student in the best internship team will receive a cash prize, valued at S$250.
  2. In addition to the cash prize, each student in the best internship team will receive a commemorative plaque separately from Arthur Andersen & Company.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a team of sufficient merit.
  4. As there are up to two intakes for the course in an academic year and there will be a graduating batch at the end of each semester, up to two awards may be made in the same year.
  5. The prize is awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of a selection committee comprising the Director of the Institute of Systems Science (or his nominee) as Chairman, two staff members from the Institute and a representative from Arthur Andersen & Company.
  6. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations specifically, Statue 7 Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulations.

 

ACI-SC Medal and Prize

Donated in 2000 by the American Concrete Institute-Singapore Chapter, a gold medal and cash prize are awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000 and made another donation in 2011 of $22,500. The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, a gold medal and cash prize will be awarded annually to the undergraduate student who obtains the highest average marks in courses related to Concrete Materials Technology.
  2. The award will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.

 

Adrian Clark Memorial Medal

A gold medal to be called the 'Adrian Clark Memorial Medal' provided out of the interest on a sum of $3,000 donated in 1950 by friends in memory of the late Mr. Adrian Clark, Legal Advisor to the Federated Malay States, shall be awarded annually by the Board of Undergraduate Studies.

The medal shall be for award to the student gaining the highest marks in the final degree examination in the Faculty of Law provided he is considered by the Board of Undergraduate Studies to be of sufficient merit.

 

Akzo Nobel Medal

In 1995, ICI Paints (Singapore) Pte Ltd donated a sum of $15,000 to the University to establish a fund, the proceeds of which will be used to award a gold medal annually to the best student in Architectural Design in the course for the degree of Bachelor of Arts (Architecture)(Honours).

ICI Paints (Singapore) was acquired by an MNC, AkzoNobel Group, and has changed its name to Akzo Nobel Paints (Singapore) Pte Ltd. In 2017, the award is then renamed to “Akzo Nobel Medal” to reflect the company’s new identity.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. The award will be given to the best student in Architectural Design in the course for the degree of Bachelor of Arts (Architecture) (Honours).
  2. The award is made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the School of Design and Environment, which will take into account the views of the respective Boards of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Albert Lim Liat Juay Medal

Donated in 1970 by Dr. Chee Phui Hung, the award will be made annually based on the results of the Final Fourth Professional Examination for the degrees of M.B.,B.S.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below,
    1. A silver medal will be awarded to the second best student in the Fourth Professional Examination.
    2. A bronze medal will be awarded to the third best student in the Fourth Professional Examination.
  2. The medal will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies or its nominee.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Albert Teo Prize

In 2020, Professor Albert Teo donated an expendable sum of $20,000 to establish the Albert Teo Prize to encourage and recognise excellence in our USP graduating students.

The prize is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, one prize will be awarded annually to one graduating student from the University Scholars Programme (USP) who is not only a well-rounded individual exemplifying academic excellence, but has also demonstrated a strong passion for entrepreneurship or innovation in social or business sector. This is regardless of ethnicity or nationality of the candidate.
  2. The award consists of a cash prize of S$1,000.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies or its nominee.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Alcatel-Lucent Technologies Prize

Donated in 1999 by Lucent Technologies Singapore Pte Ltd, a cash prize is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000. The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the cash prize will be awarded to the final year student with the best Communications Engineering final year project in the Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) examinations.
  2. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. The prize, valued at $500, will be in the form of cash.

 

Alcatel-Lucent Telecommunications Prize

Donated in 1999 by Lucent Technologies Singapore Pte Ltd, a cash prize is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000. The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the cash prize will be awarded to the student who has the best performance in a course in the area of Communications and Networks in the Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) Examinations or the Bachelor of Engineering (Computer Engineering) Examinations.
  2. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. In case of a tie, the award will be divided equally.
  5. The prize, valued at $250, will be in the form of cash.

 

Amos Koh Medal

Established in 2005, the Amos Koh Medal is in memorial of the late Dr. Amos Koh, a real estate academic and professional who had served the public and private sector significantly (until 2000). Donated in 2005 with an expendable sum of S$30,000, the Amos Koh Medal is awarded to an undergraduate completing the final year studies in the Department of Real Estate.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 4 below, the medal will be awarded to a graduating student in Bachelor of Science (Real Estate) programme who has:
    1. obtained at least an Honours (Distinction);
    2. achieved the highest mark for RE4711 FYP Dissertation.
  2. In the event of a tie between two candidates, student with the highest GPA will be awarded.
  3. The award will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  4. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

AMP Prize

The Association of Muslim Professionals (AMP) annually donates a cash prize, valued at $500, to an Honours Year student in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences who has submitted the best Academic Exercise on any aspect that is of relevance to the Malay/Muslim community in Singapore. The ethnic background of the student is immaterial.

  1. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of a committee consisting of the Dean and Heads of Departments in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. No award will be made unless the Board of Undergraduate Studies is satisfied that there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  2. If in any year, in the opinion of the Board of Undergraduate Studies, there are two or more candidates meriting the award, the income may be distributed by the Board of Undergraduate Studies in such manner as it thinks fit. The prize will be in the form of cash.

 

Annie Tan (Mrs Wan Boo Sow) Medal and Prize

Donated in 2008 by a member of the Wan family in remembrance of their late mother, Mdm Annie Tan, who was proficient in several languages including English and Chinese, a gold medal and a cash prize is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $250,000. The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 5 below, the award will be given annually to up to seven outstanding female undergraduates of the graduating cohort from Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) with high bilingual competence in Chinese and English.
  2. The award recipients must be Singapore citizens born in Singapore and/or Singaporean-at-birth, and have graduated with Honours (Highest Distinction) from FASS. All applicants are required to submit a copy of their Singapore birth certificate.
  3. Each cash prize will be valued at up to S$5,000, together with a gold medal. The value and number of cash prizes to be awarded will be subject to sufficiency of funds and/or available income and the University’s prevailing spending policies. All winners in the same academic year will each receive the same cash prize amount.
  4. Preference to be given in the following order:
    1. Candidates with a record of community service perhaps from pre-university years. Emphasis must be on service to the wider community and through secular organizations. Therefore, activities exclusively through one's own religious group or faith-based charities (i.e. not secular groups) are excluded for the purpose of this Prize.
    2. Candidates who have undertaken an internship in NUS Overseas College (NOC) in a Chinese city (e.g. Shanghai or Beijing); or a course in Chinese Studies..
  5. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  6. The award will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the FASS Board of Examiners. An interview of each eligible candidate would be conducted by a Selection Committee comprising selected members from the FASS Board of Examiners and the Deanery, before the shortlisted candidate(s) is recommended to Board of Undergraduate Studies. Each member of the award panel must be fluent in Chinese and/or English.
  7. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Andre Wansaicheong Prize in Arts and Culture

The late Dr Andre Wansaicheong passed away on 4 May 2020. He was a National University of Singapore (NUS) alumnus [MBBS ’88, MMed (Public Health) ’94], and was awarded the University-level Gold Medal for his top performance in the MMed (Public Health) programme. He served as the Research Director at the NUS Office of the Deputy President (Research & Technology) and received the National Day Award of Public Administration Medal (Bronze) in 2019 for his role there.

With his passing, the MBBS Class of 1988 made a collective gift of $15,000 to establish an expendable prize in his memory to encourage and recognise our medical undergraduates who have displayed excellence in academics as well as outstanding achievements in arts and culture.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, a cash prize of $1,000 and a certificate, will be given to an undergraduate medical student who has displayed academic excellence and outstanding achievements in Arts & Culture.
  2. The prize will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies or its nominee.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. If no award is made in any year, the unutilised amount will be added to the fund.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

APL Medal

Donated in 1995 by the Neptune Orient Lines Ltd, a gold medal is awarded annually from the proceeds of a capital sum of $30,000. CMA CGM Group, a parent company of APL, acquired Neptune Orient Lines Ltd in 2016.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the medal will be awarded to the most outstanding student in Operations and Supply Chain Management specialization in the B.B.A. Honours examination.
  2. The award will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Arcadis Singapore Medal

Donated by Langdon & Seah (Singapore) Pte Ltd, a gold medal is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $30,000. The medal will be awarded to a student in the Bachelor of Science (Project and Facilities Management) programme with effect from AY2009/10.

In 2017, the award was renamed to Arcadis Singapore Medal to reflect the company’s new identity.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to Rule 3 below, a gold medal is awarded to a student from each graduating year in the Bachelor of Science (Project and Facilities Management) programme who has obtained at least an Honours (Distinction) and achieved the highest combined average grade point, at the first attempt for the following:
    1. PF2108 Project Cost Management
    2. PF3201 Measurement (Specialist Works)
    3. PF4102 Contract and Procurement Management
    4. PF4203 Project Dispute Management
  2. In case of a tie, the following break-tie criteria shall apply: (i) highest GPA; and failing which, (ii) the number of A+, A and A- obtained throughout course of study will be considered.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. The medal will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

ASEAN Cableship Prize

In 2022, ASEAN Cableship Pte Ltd gifted an expendable sum of S$15,000 to establish an award to encourage and recognise our Master of Science in Maritime Technology and Management graduates who have displayed excellence in their academic studies.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the cash prize of $1,000 Singapore Dollars will be given to the top student in MTM5001 Maritime Industry Fundamentals every academic year, until the $15,000 is completely expended.
  2. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies or its nominee.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Asian Congress of Fluid Mechanics Prize

Donated in 1997 by the Organising Committee of the Sixth Asian Congress of Fluid Mechanics in the Department of Mechanical and Production Engineering, a cash prize is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000. The cash prize is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the prize will be awarded to the student with the highest mark in the course on Fluid Mechanics in the Bachelor of Engineering I Examination.
  2. The award will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. The prize will be in the form of cash.

 

Asian Pacific Confederation of Chemical Engineering, Fourth Congress Commemorative Prize

Jointly donated in 1987 by the Asian Pacific Confederation of Chemical Engineering Executive Committee and the Applied Research Corporation, 3 cash prizes are awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $10,000.

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the prizes each valued at $100 will be available for award annually to students from the Department of Chemical Engineering. The 3 prizes will be awarded to 3 graduating students in the B.Eng. (Chemical Engineering) programme each academic year who have the best performance in core chemical engineering courses.
  2. The prizes shall be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. No award shall be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. The prize will be in the form of cash.
