V. S. Rajan Medal

Donated in 1984 by the Dermatological Society of Singapore in memory of the late Clinical Associate Professor V. S. Rajan, the award will be made from the proceeds of a capital sum of $10,000 to a Final Year student in the Final Year of the M.B.,B.S. course.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 4 below, a gold medal will be awarded to the student who has distinguished himself or herself in dermatology in the Final Year of the M.B.,B.S. course.
  2. The assessment will be made by a committee comprising the Dean of Medicine, the Head of the Department of Medicine, the President of the Dermatological Society of Singapore and the part-time lecturer and clinical teacher in dermato-venereology.
  3. The medal will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies or its nominee.
  4. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Vellasamy Medal

Presented in 1970 by an anonymous donor, the Vellasamy Medal, named after Dr K. Vellasamy, Surgical Tutor to dental students, is a silver medal awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $1,000. In 2003, it was agreed that a cash prize may be awarded. The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. The medal is awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners to the best student with distinction in Surgery in the Third Professional Examination for the degree of B.D.S. provided he is considered by the Board of Undergraduates Studies to be of sufficient merit.
  2. In the event that no student is eligible for award of a medal, a cash prize may be awarded to the student who obtains the highest mark and an 'A' grade for the subject.
  3. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Victor and Angeline Lim Hesed Foundation Nursing Prize

In 2024, Mr and Mrs Victor and Angeline Lim made an expandable gift of S$36,000 to establish the Victor and Angeline Lim Hesed Foundation Nursing Prize.

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the prizes are governed by the following conditions:

    a. The top part-time Bachelor of Science (Nursing Practice) student in each of the following courses  will be awarded with a cash prize of $1,000. Prizes will be awarded per academic year. The courses are:
    1.   NUR2500 Applied Pathophysiology and Clinical Pharmacology
    2.   NUR2501 Clinical Health Assessment and Reasoning
    3.   NUR2502 Healthcare Policy
    4.   NUR2503 Global and Community Health
    5.   NUR3500 Practice of Palliative and End-of-Life Care
    6.   NUR3501 Professionalism, Ethics and Law in Healthcare
    7.   NUR3502 Teaching and Learning in Clinical Practice
    8.   NUR3503 Leadership, Innovation and Change in Healthcare
    9.   NUR3504 Chronic Disease Management
    10.   NUR3505 Research Methodology and Statistics
    11.   NUR3506 Translation of Evidence into Practice
    12.   NUR3507 Clinical Practice Development Project

  2. The Board of Examiners will take into consideration the performance of the candidates throughout the course of study to choose the most deserving candidate.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. If no award is made in any year, the funds available will be added to the capital sum.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.
