P & T Prize

In 2019, P & T Consultants Pte Ltd wishes to make an expendable gift of S$15,000 to the School of Design and Environment to establish an annual award to encourage and recognize excellence in our Master of Architecture (M.Arch) students.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, a cash prize of S$1,500 will be awarded in each academic year to a deserving M.Arch graduating student who has achieved the highest mark for AR5423 Architectural Practice course.
  2. The student must also obtain a minimum grade of A- in the course. In case of a tie, the GPA will be used as a criterion for selecting the winner i.e., the graduate with the higher GPA will be awarded the prize.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies or its nominee.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

P R Krishnaswamy Memorial Medal and Prize

Donated in 2009 by family of the late Associate Professorial Fellow P.R. Krishnaswamy, a gold medal and cash prize are awarded from the sum of $15,000.

The late Professor Krishnaswamy joined the Department in 1982. He has contributed more than 26 years of quality service to educational activities and the growth of the Department, and did so till he passed away on 11 December 2008. He had taught many core chemical engineering courses; especially in the area of process control in the undergraduate curriculum. He also initiated and contributed to the growth of process control research in the Department. He chaired the Postgraduate Committee during a period when the Department underwent rapid transformation into a research-intensive Department.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, a gold medal and cash prize of $250 are awarded to a student who has obtained the highest aggregate marks in a core course on process dynamics and control, in the B.Eng. (Chemical Engineering) programme. The course to be considered for the medal in each academic year will be decided upon by the Head of the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.
  2. The medal and prize will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. In the event of there being more than one candidate of equal merit, the Board of Examiners will take into consideration the performance of the candidates throughout the course of study to choose the most deserving candidate.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Panasonic Prize

Donated in 1997 by Asia Matsushita Electric (S) Pte Ltd, a cash prize is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000. Following a change of the company's name to Panasonic Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd., with effect from 1 October 2004, the Matsushita Prize is renamed Panasonic Prize.

The prize is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the prize is awarded to the graduate with the best performance in Asia Markets and Marketing Management who must have also performed well in the overall examination for the degree of Master of Business Administration.
  2. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of a Selection Committee comprising the Dean and the Vice Dean (Graduate Studies) of the School of Business, MBA Academic Director of the MBA Programmes Office, Head of Departments and a nominee of the Dean of the School of Business.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. The prize will be in the form of cash.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Paul W. Ngui Medal and Prize

The Paul W. Ngui Medal and Prize will be awarded annually as follows:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the award will be given to the overall best deserving student at the Final Master of Medicine in Psychiatry Examination.
  2. Each award consists of a gold medal and SGD1,000 in the form of cash. In the event of a tie, the award may be shared equally, e.g. the 2 winners will each receive 1 gold medal and SGD500 cash prize.
  3. No award shall be made if there is no candidate of sufficient merit. If there are no awards presented at any given year, the unutilized amount will be added back to the fund.
  4. The medals and prizes will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners at the Division of Graduate Medical Studies.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Professional Engineers Board Gold Medal

In 1976, the Professional Engineers Board (Singapore) instituted the award for the BEng degree. The donor extended the award by adding two additional gold medals in 2008 and another gold medal in 2023 for the Undergraduate programme. The donor now awards a total of four (4) medals to best deserving students of our BEng degrees.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, four gold medals are awarded to candidates, one each from the following undergraduate (BEng) programme:
    1. Chemical,
    2. Civil,
    3. Electrical
    4. Mechanical Engineering
    The gold medal will be awarded to a candidate who has fulfilled the degree requirements of the above stated Engineering programmes with Honours (Highest Distinction) and has a distinguished record in either extra-curricular activities or public service in Singapore during the undergraduate period.
  2. The medals will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Peh Eng Teck Memorial Medal and Prize

In 2012, Professor Wilfred Peh and his siblings donated a sum of S$15,000 to award a gold medal and cash prize annually.

Professor Wilfred Peh Chin Guan, Senior Consultant and Head of Department of Diagnostic Radiology from Khoo Teck Puat Hospital established this award to encourage and recognize excellence in students at the Final Master of Medicine in Diagnostic Radiology Examination.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the award will be given to the best overall student at the Final Master of Medicine in Diagnostic Radiology Examination. In the event of a tie, the award may be shared equally.
  2. Each award consists of a gold medal and S$1,000 in the form of cash prize.
  3. No award shall be made if there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. The medals and prizes will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners at the Division of Graduate Medical Studies.
  5. If there are no awards presented at any given year, the unutilized amount will be added back to the fund.
  6. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Pfizer Medal

Donated in 2005 by Pfizer Asia Pacific Pte Ltd a gold medal will be awarded from the proceeds from a capital sum of $30,000. This award is to encourage more students in the chemistry programmes to develop an interest and capability in synthetic organic chemistry, enzymatic catalysis and advanced analytical techniques.  The first award will be made in academic year 2005-2006.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the gold will be awarded to the student in Chemistry or Applied Chemistry who has passed the examination for the degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) and has the best Honours Project in synthetic organic chemistry, enzymatic catalysis and advanced analytical techniques.
  2. The gold medal will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of Head, Department of Chemistry.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Pharmaceutical Society of Singapore Prize

Donated in 1997 by the Pharmaceutical Society of Singapore, a book prize in the form of the latest edition of the 'Handbook of Non-prescription Drugs' published by the American Pharmaceutical Association was awarded to the final year Pharmacy student with the best overall performance and examination results in the pharmacy practice courses.

In 2018, the award has been changed to a cash prize valued at S$200:

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3, a cash prize valued at S$200 will be given to the final year student who has achieved the best overall performance in all the examinations of pharmacy practice courses (as identified by the Department) throughout the course of study.
  2. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies or its nominee.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Pharmacia Medal and Prize in Pharmacology

Endowed in 2001 by Pharmacia Singapore Pte Ltd, a gold medal and prize are awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000. The university award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the award will be made to the best B.Sc student majoring in Biomedical Sciences/Life Sciences with the highest weighted average score in the Pharmacology courses listed below with a minimum weighted average grade of A-.
    1. 2 third year Pharmacology courses (in the case of Biomedical Sciences, the courses would be at second year level)
    2. 2 fourth year Pharmacology courses (in the case of Biomedical Sciences, the courses would be at third year level)
    3. Honours Project in Pharmacology
  2. The medal will be awarded on the recommendation of the Head of the Department of Pharmacology.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. The prize, valued at $200 will be in the form of cash.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Philosophy Prize

Donated in 1976 by members of the Department of Philosophy, the prize is awarded to the best student who obtains Grade A in Philosophy in the Arts III Examination.

  1. The prize is awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies (BUS) on the recommendation of the FASS Board of Examiners.
  2. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit. The prize, valued at $200, will be in the form of cash.
  3. In the event of there being more than one candidate of equal merit for the award, the BUS may, subject to funds being available, distribute the award or make additional awards in such manner as it deems fit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Pioneer Architects (Lim Chong Keat) Prize

In conjunction with the Department of Architecture's 50th Anniversary celebrations, a group of alumni raised a total of $75,000 in 2010 to support the establishment of a prize at Department of Architecture. The prize is awarded from the sum of $75,000 and is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the prize will be awarded to a Master of Architecture (M.Arch) student(s) whose final year design thesis display strong and discernible “pioneering” spirit that is environmentally, economically and socially sustainable.
  2. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation

 

Prosthodontic Society Singapore Medal and Prize

Donated by the Prosthodontic Society Singapore in 2005, a medal and prize is awarded annually from the proceeds of a capital sum of $30,000.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 4 below, the medal and up to $1,000 cash prize is awarded to the best student with a minimum ‘A-’grade in Prosthodontics in the Final M.D.S. Examination. The quantum of the “Prosthodontic Society Singapore Medal and Prize” to be awarded each year is subject to the annual spending limit.
  2. The award will be made by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. In the event that no student is eligible for award of a medal, a cash prize of value not more than $100 may be awarded to the best student subject to the satisfaction of the BOE
  4. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  5. In the event of there being more than one candidate of equal merit, the relevant Board of Examiners will take into consideration the performance of the candidates during the year as well as their examination results.
  6. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

PSA Prize

Donated in 2001 by PSA Corporation Limited, a prize is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000. The prize is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the prize valued at $250, will be awarded to the student with the best aggregate GPA in Computing and Technical courses for the degree of the Master of Science (Financial Engineering).
  2. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.

 

PSS Prize for Pharmaceutics

Presented in 1976 by the Pharmaceutical Society of Singapore, the prize has an original value of $100. In 1997, the Pharmaceutical Society of Singapore increased the value of the prize to $200.

The award would be made to the next best honours student in Pharmacy who has obtained at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in the Examination for the degree of B.Sc.(Pharmacy) with Honours. The first award was made in the 1975-6 academic session.

In 2002, the Pharmaceutical Society of Singapore renamed the award as PSS Prize for Pharmaceutics. The conditions are as follows:

  1. The award will be made to the student who has achieved the best overall performance in all the examinations of pharmaceutics courses (as identified by the Department) throughout the course of study.
  2. Subject to rule 3, the cash prize will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Psychiatry and Neuroscience Medal & Prize

Donated in 2014 by an anonymous donor, a gold medal and a cash prize will be awarded from an expendable sum of S$30,000. The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, a gold medal and cash prize of S$1,000 will be awarded to the most outstanding undergraduate medical student in Year 4 Psychiatry Clerkship and Fourth Professional Exam in Psychiatry and Neuroscience.
  2. The medal and prize will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendations of the relevant Board of Examiners and adjudicating panel comprising:
    • Head, Department of Psychological Medicine
    • Clinical Director, Department of Psychological Medicine
    • Education Director, Department of Psychological Medicine
    • A Senior Consultant, Department of Psychological Medicine
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. If no award is made in any year, the unutilized amount will be added to the fund.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

PUB Prize

PUB, the Singapore's National Water Agency donated a sum of $15,000 in 2016. The sum is used to fund the PUB Prize starting from academic year 2016/2017. The PUB Prize is a cash prize and will be awarded to outstanding Civil Engineering students from each cohort in the following categories:

  1. S$500 for a Year 2 Student
  2. S$500 for a Year 3 Student
  3. S$1,500 for a Year 4 Student

PUB is a statutory board under the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment. It is the Singapore's National Water Agency that manages Singapore’s water supply, water catchment and used water in an integrated way. In the last five decades, PUB has ensured a diversified and sustainable supply of water for the nation with the Four National Taps (water from local catchment, imported water, NEWater and desalinated water).

The terms and conditions of the PUB prize is as follows:

  1. Only full-time students pursuing the Bachelor of Engineering (Civil Engineering) programme at the National University of Singapore will qualify.
  2. The award recipients must be a Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident.
  3. No award will be made if there is no candidate of sufficient merits. If no award is made in any year, the unutilized amount will be added to the fund.
  4. Each prize is awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies based on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.
