Sally Meyer Medal

Donated in 1983, the gold medals are awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $10,000.

  1. Subject to rule 4 below, the medals will be awarded annually on the conditions given below:
    1. one (1) to the best student with
      1. the highest GPA from PF4101/ IPM4101 Dissertation and any two Level 4 PF/IPM courses; and
      2. at least an Honours (Distinction) for BSc (Project and Facilities Management) [BSc (PFM)] or BEng (Infrastructure and Project Management) [BEng (IPM)] from the Department of the Built Environment, in the College of Design and Engineering.
    2. one (1) to the best student and at least an Honours (Distinction) for BSc (Real Estate) [BSc (RE)] in the School of Business.
  2. The awards will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies or its nominee.
  3. In making a recommendation to the Board of Undergraduate Studies, the Board of Examiners will also consider the candidate's extra-curricular activities and his class records.
  4. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Saw Gold Medal in Finance

Donated in 1993 by Dr Saw Swee Hock, the gold medal is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $30,000.

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the medal will be awarded to an outstanding graduate in Finance & Banking who has performed well in the overall examination for the degree of Master of Business Administration.
  2. The medal will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of a Selection Committee comprising the Dean and the Vice Dean (Graduate Studies) of the School of Business, MBA Academic Director of the MBA Programmes Office, Head of Departments and a nominee of the Dean of the School of Business.
  3. No award will be made unless the Board of Graduate Studies is satisfied that there is a candidate of sufficient merit.

 

Saw Swee Hock Gold Medal

Donated in 2002 by Dr. Saw Swee Hock, a former Professor of Statistics in the National University of Singapore, the gold medal is awarded from the proceeds of the capital sum of S$30,000. The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the medal will be awarded to an outstanding student who obtains a First Class Honours in Statistics in the Examination for the degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours).
  2. The medal will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

SCAL Gold Medal

Donated in 1998 by the Singapore Contractors Association Limited, a gold medal is awarded from the income of a capital sum of $15,000.

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the medal will be awarded to the student who graduated from the Bachelor of Science (Project and Facilities Management) with at least an Honours (Distinction) and has the highest mark in the courses PF4101 Dissertation, PF2102 Structural Systems, and PF3104 Project Execution.
  2. The medal will be awarded by Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the appropriate Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

SCS Prize

Donated in 1997 by the Singapore Computer Society (SCS), the prize is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 4 below, a cash prize of $1000 will be given to the best student who has met the graduation requirements in each of the following specialisations in the Master of Computing programme.
    1. Information Systems; and
    2. Infocomm Security.
  2. The winners will each receive a five‐year membership with the Society.
  3. The prizes will be made by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  4. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  5. If no award is made in any year, the funds available will be carried forward to provide for awards in subsequent years.
  6. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

SDA Medal (Best Student in Medicine)

Presented in 1971 by Mr and Mrs Lau Kieng Hiong, the Singapore Dental Association Silver Medal is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $1,000. In 2003, it was agreed that in the event that there is no student eligible for award of a medal, a cash prize may be awarded.
In 2004, the award was renamed SDA Medal (Best Student in Medicine).
The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. The medal is awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners to the student gaining the highest marks with distinction in Medicine in the Third Professional Examination for the degree of B.D.S. provided he is considered by the Board of Undergraduate Studies to be of sufficient merit.
  2. In the event that no student is eligible for award of a medal, a cash prize of $500 may be awarded to the student who obtains the highest mark and an 'A' grade for the subject.
  3. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

SDA Medal (Best Student in Preventive Dentistry and Dental Public Health)

Donated in 2000 by the Singapore Dental Association to commemorate the occasion of Singapore Dental Association International Meeting held in 1999, the Singapore Dental Association Medal Gold Medal for Preventive Dentistry is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000. In 2003, it was agreed that in the event that there is no student eligible for award of a medal, a cash prize may be awarded.
In 2004 the award was renamed SDA Medal (Best Student in Preventive Dentistry and Public Dental Health).
The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 4 below, the medal will be awarded to the best student in Preventive Dentistry & Dental Public Health in the Final Professional Examination for the degree of Bachelor of Dentistry.
  2. In the event that no student is eligible for award of a medal, a cash prize may be awarded to the student who obtains the highest mark and an 'A' grade for the subject.
  3. The medal will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies (was formerly by Senate) on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  4. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Seagate Medal

Donated in 1992 by Conner Peripherals Pte Ltd, a gold medal is awarded annually from the proceeds of a capital sum of $30,000. After the merger of Seagate Technology International and Conner Peripherals, the Conner Gold Medal is renamed Seagate Medal.
The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the gold medal is awarded to the best student in “Decision Analytics Using Spreadsheets” who has also excelled in the overall examination
  2. The award will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. In the event that there are two or more candidates of equal merit, the Board of Examiners will take into consideration the performance of the candidates throughout their course of study.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically NUS Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Seah Cheng Siang Medal

Donated in 1991 by the Council of the Academy of Medicine, in memory of the late Clinical Professor Seah Cheng Siang, a gold medal is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000 to the most outstanding candidate who has the highest marks in the clinical section of the Examination leading to the degree of Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine).

  1. The award will be made by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  2. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.

First donated in 2002 by Professor Christopher Tang, a gold medal and cash prize will be awarded annually from the proceeds of a capital sum of S$30,000. The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 4 below, a gold medal and cash prize will be awarded to the most outstanding student in The NUS Executive MBA (Chinese) Programme.
  2. The cash prize quantum will be subject to the availability of the distributable return from the endowed fund and the cost of the medal.
  3. The medal and cash prize will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies or its nominee.
  4. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Sembcorp Marine Prize

Donated in 1973 by Jurong Shipyard Limited, the cash prizes are awarded to students in the Department of Physics from the proceeds of a capital sum of $5,000. In 1994, Jurong Shipyard Limited donated an additional sum of $15,000 to augment the initial donation.

In 2000, Jurong Shipyard Ltd was changed to Sembcorp Marine Ltd after it became a subsidiary of Sembcorp Marine Ltd, a company listed on the SGX Mainboard.

The prize is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Six cash prizes are available and will be awarded as follows:
    1. Two to the best students in Physics in the Science I Examination for the degree of Bachelor of Science;
    2. Two to the best students in Physics in the Science II Examination for the degree of Bachelor of Science; and
    3. Two to the best students in Physics in the Science III Examination for the degree of Bachelor of Science
  2. The prizes will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. Each cash prize has a value of $100.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

Donated in 2010 by Sembcorp Industries Limited, the prize is awarded from the sum of $15,000. The prize is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the top year 4 student graduating with the B. Eng (Environmental Engineering) degree, shall be presented with a gold medal and cash prize valued at $500.
  2. The Department with the concurrence of the Board of Examiners (BoE) shall select the winners from each of the three (3) cohorts based on the overall Academic Year Average Point. (AYAP).

Shell Medal and Prize

Donated in 2003 by the Shell Group of Companies, a gold medal and a cash prize will be awarded annually for 15 years starting from academic year 2003-4. The award will be governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, a medal and prize will be awarded to the most outstanding student who graduates with a degree in the Master of Science (Environmental Management). The award will be of a total value of S$1000 for a gold medal with the balance being used towards a cash prize.
  2. The medal will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Sim Geok Soo Medal

Donated in 1996 by Associate Professor Sim Keng Yeow in memory of his father, Mr Sim Geok Soo, a gold medal is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the medal will be awarded to the graduating Master of Science in Chemical Sciences by Coursework student with the best project thesis.
  2. The medal will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

SingHealth Medals and Prizes

SingHealth has pledged seven (7) awards to every graduating Duke-NUS class annually, starting from the AY2011/12 cohort. These awards honor outstanding performance in individual medical fields, as well as medicine in general. Six (6) awards were given out in AY2010/11 as Faculty-level awards.
The awards are governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 2 below, the following seven (7) SingHealth Graduation Medals and Prizes will be awarded annually:
    1. SingHealth Top Student Gold Medal – a gold medal and a cash prize of S$3,000 for the top overall graduating student.
    2. SingHealth Seah Cheng Siang Gold Medal in Medicine – a gold medal and a cash prize of S$2,000 for the top student in Internal Medicine.
    3. SingHealth David Sabiston Gold Medal in Surgery – a gold medal and a cash prize of S$2,000 for the top student in Surgery.
    4. SingHealth Prize in Obstetrics & Gynaecology – a cash prize of S$1,000 for the top student in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
    5. SingHealth Prize in Paediatrics – a cash prize of S$1,000 for the top student in Paediatrics.
    6. SingHealth Prize in Family Medicine – a cash prize of S$1,000 for the top student in Family Medicine.
    7. SingHealth Prize in Neurology – a cash prize of S$500 for the top student in Neurology.
  2. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  3. In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided by the recommendation of the respective Duke-NUS Clerkship Director for Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Family Medicine, and/or Neurology.
  4. The winners will be nominated by the Duke-NUS Student Awards Selection Committee and recommended to the respective Duke-NUS Clerkship Director. This committee shall be comprised of the following:
    1. A nominee of the Vice Dean, Education, Duke-NUS;
    2. A nominee of the Dean, Duke-NUS who shall be the Chairman of the Committee; and
    3. Any additional nominees by the Chairman of the Committee as he/she sees fit
  5. The awards will be approved by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the respective Duke-NUS Clerkship Director and endorsement by SingHealth.
  6. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulations.

 

Singapore Academy of Law Prize

Donated in 1997 by the Singapore Academy of Law Scholarships and Prizes Committee, a prize is awarded based on the following conditions:

  1. The prize shall be for an initial period of 10 years as from the academic year 1997-8. The value of the prize is $3,000 per year.
  2. Subject to there being a candidate of sufficient merit, the prize shall be awarded annually to the student gaining the highest marks in the Fourth Year LL.B (Full-time) Examination. The award is to be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the Final LL.B. (Full-time) Board of Examiners.
  3. If in any year, there are two or more candidates meriting the award, the Board of Examiners may recommend to the Board of Undergraduate Studies the manner in which the prize and/or any accumulated income is to be distributed, and the Board of Undergraduate Studies may make the award accordingly.
  4. If no award is made in any year, the sum shall be accumulated and such accumulated income shall be carried forward for award in any year or years following.
  5. It will not be obligatory for the Board of Examiners to recommend or the Board of Undergraduate Studies to make an award every year.

 

Singapore Association of Social Workers' Medal

Donated in 1972 by the Singapore Association of Social Workers, the medal is awarded to the most outstanding student in Social Work who has passed the examination for the degree of Bachelor of Social Sciences with honours.

  1. The award will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Head of the Department of Social Work.
  2. Subject to there being a candidate of sufficient merit, the medal will be awarded annually.

 

Singapore Association of Writers Medal and Prize for Chinese Studies

The Singapore Association of Writers Loan Fund was set up in 1994 with a capital sum of $30,000. The fund is to assist needy students in the Department. As this Loan Fund has not been utilized since its establishment, the Department obtained approval from the Singapore Association of writers in 2000 to convert part of the fund ($15,000) to set up an endowed award.

The award will be governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, a gold medal and cash prize will be awarded to the best graduate in the Master of Arts by Research programme.
  2. The cash prize will have a value not exceeding S$1,500, and its quantum will be subject to the availability of the distributable return from the capital sum and cost of the medal.
  3. The award will be made by the Board of Graduate Studies or its nominee.
  4. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Singapore Concrete Institute Medal and Prize

Donated in 1997 by the Singapore Concrete Institute, a gold medal and a cash prize will be awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000. The awards are governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, a gold medal and a cash prize will be awarded to the best Civil Engineering graduate in Concrete Technology and Concrete Design related courses in the examination leading to the degree of Bachelor of Engineering.
  2. The award will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. The cash prize will be paid from the balance of the proceeds available after the purchase of the gold medal.

 

Singapore Dental Association Presidents' Medal and Prize

Donated by the Singapore Dental Association Presidents' Medals, two bronze medals and two silver medals are awarded on the following conditions:

  1. (a) A cash prize of $500 and a bronze medal are awarded on the results of the First Professional B.D.S. Examination (main) to the student who is second in the examination.
    (b) A cash prize of $1,000 and a silver medal are awarded on the results of the First Professional B.D.S. Examination (main) to the student who is first in the Examination.
    (c) A cash prize of $500 and a bronze medal are awarded on the results of the Second Professional B.D.S. Examination (main) to the student who is second in the Examination.
    (d) A cash prize of $1,000 and a silver medal are awarded on the results of the Second Professional B.D.S. Examination (main) to the student who is first in the Examination.
  2. The medals are awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. The first award was made in the academic year 1970-1.

 

Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce Medal

In 1975, the Singapore Indian Chambers of Commerce donated to the University a capital sum of $2,000, the proceeds of which were used for the award of a silver medal. In 1991, with another donation of $11,430 from the Singapore Indian Chamber, the total amount in the fund, including the accumulated interests, stands at $15,000. The proceeds of the capital sum of $15,000 will be used for the award of a gold medal.

  1. The medal will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners to the best candidate in the Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) IV Examination, provided he is of sufficient merit.
  2. In the event of there being two or more candidates of equal merit, the Board of Examiners will take into consideration the performance of the candidates during stage 4 in addition to their overall examination results.

 

Singapore Institute of Arbitrators Medal and Prize

Donated by the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators to the Department of the Built Environment, the award has been transferred to the Faculty of Law in 2023 to award a medal and prize with effect from AY 2022/2023.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 5 below, a gold medal and cash prize will be awarded to the top student in the  Masters of Law (International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution) Programme at the Faculty of Law.
  2. The medal and cash prize will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. The cash prize quantum will be subject to the distributable return from the endowed capital sum, after taking into account the cost of the medal.
  4. The Prize may be apportioned, if in any AY, there are in the opinion of the Board of Examiners, two or more candidates of equal merit.
  5. No award will be made unless there is a candidate who is of sufficient merit.
  6. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Singapore Institute of Architects Medal for M.Arch and Singapore Institute of Architects Prize

Presented in 1970 by the Singapore Institute of Architects, the gold medal is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $2,000 to the student who has passed the Master of Architecture II Examinations and who has distinguished himself throughout his course of study. Subsequently in 1979, the capital sum was increased to $6,000 so that a gold medal may be awarded with effect from the academic year 1979-80.
In 1999, the Singapore Institute of Architects donated a prize valued at $300 for award annually to the top student in the Master of Arts (Urban Design) course who has passed all the essential and elective courses at the first and same sitting. The prize to be known as the Singapore Institute of Architects Prize for Master of Arts (Urban Design). In 2003, the cash prize was renamed Singapore Institute of Architects Prize.

  1. The award is made by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the School of Design and Environment who will take into account the views of the respective Boards of Examiners.
  2. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  3. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Singapore Institute of Biology Prize

Two prizes each with a value of $100 have been donated by the Singapore Institute of Biology. The first prize was awarded in 1997. In 2004, the Institute decided that the value of the 2 prizes be combined into one cash prize of $200.
The award will be subject to the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 2 below, the prize is awarded annually to the best graduate in the area of concentration of Biology (Life Sciences) who graduates with a degree in Bachelor of Science with at least a Second Class Honours (Upper Division).
  2. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  3. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners.
  4. The prize will be in the form of cash.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Singapore Institute of Building Gold Medal

In 1986, the Singapore Institute of Building Limited donated $10,000 to institute a gold medal award for the School of Building and Real Estate. In 2001, following the restructuring of the School of Building and Real Estate into two separate departments namely Department of Building and Department of Real Estate, the Singapore Institute of Building Limited changed the basis of the award so that the medal will be given to a student from the Department of Building. The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the gold medal is awarded to a Bachelor of Science (Projects and Facilities Management) graduating student with at least an Honours (Distinction) who has attained the highest mark in PF4101 Dissertation.
  2. The medal will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the appropriate Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Singapore Institute of Management Prize

Donated in 1970 by the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM), one cash prize will be awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum to a deserving student from NUS Business School.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 2 below, a cash prize will be awarded to the best student in the Bachelor of Business Administration II Examination.
  2. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  3. The cash prize quantum will be subject to the availability of the distributable return from the endowed fund.
  4. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies or its nominee.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Singapore Journal of Tropical Geography Prize

Presented in 1971 by the Journal of Tropical Geography, the prize, valued at $200, is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $6,000. The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 2 below, the prize will be awarded annually by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners to the best student in Geography in the Arts III Examination.
  2. If, in any year, in the opinion of the Board of Undergraduate Studies there is no candidate of sufficient merit, no award will be made.
  3. The prize will be in the form of cash.

 

Singapore Mathematical Society Medal and Prize

Donated in 1995 by the Singapore Mathematical Society, a gold medal and cash prize with a total value of $500 are awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000. The awards are governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the gold medal and cash prize are awarded to the student in Mathematics who has obtained First Class honours in the examination leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science with Honours and has the best overall performance in Mathematics throughout his course of study.

Singapore Medical Association-Lee Foundation Achievement Prize

In 2009, as part of the Singapore Medical Association's 50th Anniversary celebration, the Lee Foundation donated a capital sum of S$200,000 to jointly establish the Singapore Medical Association-Lee Foundation (SMA-LF) Achievement Prize and Singapore Medical Association-Lee Foundation (SMA-LF) Teamsmanship Award. The first prize was given out in AY2010/11 as a Faculty-level award.
The SMA-LF Achievement Prize is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 2 below, a trophy and cash prize of S$1,000 will be awarded to a final year student in the Doctor of Medicine or MD/PhD programme at Duke-NUS with the highest score in the Year Four Duke-NUS Exit Exam.
  2. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  3. The award will be made by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Duke-NUS Student Awards Selection Committee. This committee shall be comprised of the following:
    1. A nominee of the Vice Dean, Education, Duke-NUS;
    2. A nominee of the Dean, Duke-NUS who shall be the Chairman of the Committee; and
    3. Any additional nominees by the Chairman of the Committee as he/she sees fit

Singapore Medical Association-Lee Foundation Teamsmanship Award

    1. Engagement – students that are willing to actively collaborate with and assist fellow classmates, colleagues, and teammates in an academic and extracurricular setting
    2. Servant Leadership – students with the ability to lead by example as well as to understand and prioritize the needs of a community and team over that of an individual
    3. Cooperation – students with the capacity to work well with other teammates and successfully participate in group work and activities
    Peer and faculty evaluations using the following criteria will also be considered in the selection of awardees:
    1. Ability to succeed in emergency team situations
    2. Participation and interest in community service
    3. Capacity to understand and listen to others
  2. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  3. The award will be made by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Duke-NUS Student Awards Selection Committee. This committee shall be comprised of the following:

Singapore Medical Association Medal

Donated in 1970 by the Singapore Medical Association, the award will be made annually based on the results of the Final Professional Examination for the degrees of M.B.,B.S.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below,
    1. A silver medal will be awarded to the student who is First in the Final Professional Examination.
    2. A bronze medal will be awarded to the student who is second in the Final Professional Examination.
  2. The award will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies or its nominee.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.

Singapore National Institute of Chemistry (SNIC) Gold Medal for the Most Outstanding Ph.D. Thesis in Chemistry

Donated by the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry, a gold medal is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000. The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the medal will be awarded to the Doctor of Philosophy graduate in the Department of Chemistry with the most outstanding thesis. The theses of graduates in each convocation year will be assessed for this purpose by a Selection Committee appointed by the Dean of the Faculty of Science in consultation with the Head of the Department of Chemistry.
  2. The medal will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Selection Committee.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. If no award is made in any year, the funds available may be used to make more than one award in a subsequent year if there are candidates of sufficient merit.

 

Singapore National Institute of Chemistry Prizes

The Singapore National Institute of Chemistry Prize valued at $50, was first awarded in 1973. In 1986, the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry donated a sum of $12,000 to establish a fund, the proceeds of which are used to award two book prizes. In 1998, the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry donated an additional $8,000 to the capital sum. The proceeds from the capital sum of $20,000 are used to award four book prizes.
In 2016, the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry donated an additional sum from the balance funds from the defunct University-level award, Singapore National Institute of Chemistry (SNIC) Gold Medal for the most outstanding MSc Thesis in Chemistry, to award 2 more book prizes. In 2020, all the prizes will be given in the form of cash.

The awards are governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 2 below, six cash prizes, each valued at $200 are awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners:
    1. one to the best student in Chemistry in the Science I Examination for the degree of Bachelor of Science,
    2. one to the second best student in Chemistry in the Science I Examination for the degree of Bachelor of Science,
    3. one to the best student in Chemistry in the Science II Examination for the degree of Bachelor of Science,
    4. one to the second best student in Chemistry in the Science II Examination for the degree of Bachelor of Science,
    5. one to the best student in Chemistry in the Science III Examination for the degree of Bachelor of Science,
    6. one to the second best student in Chemistry in the Science III Examination for the degree of Bachelor of Science.
  2. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  3. If in any year there are, in the opinion of the relevant Board of Examiners, two or more candidates of equal merit, the Board may recommend to the Board of Undergraduate Studies that the prize money be equally divided among the candidates.

Singapore Nurses Association Medal and Prize in Nursing

Donated in 2008 by Singapore Nurses Association, a gold medal and cash prize are awarded from the sum of $15,000. The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, a gold medal and a cash prize of $300 are awarded to the best student completing the BSc (Nursing)(Honours) programme.
  2. The medal and prize will be awarded annually by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. In the event that there being more than one candidate of equal merit, the Board of Examiners will take into consideration the performance of candidates during the period of candidature in addition to their examination results.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Singapore Prison Service Data Science and Analytics Prize

In 2019, Singapore Prison Service (SPS) donated an expendable gift of S$15,000 to establish an annual award to recognise the academic achievements of undergraduate students majoring in Data Science and Analytics.

The prize is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 2 below, cash prizes valued at S$1,000 each will be awarded annually to the following Faculty of Science students:
    1. Top Data Science and Analytics Year 2 student
    2. Top Data Science and Analytics Year 3 student
    3. Top Data Science and Analytics Year 4 student
  2. No award shall be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  3. The prize will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies or its nominee.
  4. If no award is made in any year, the unutilised amount will be added to the fund.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Singapore Prison Service Psychology Prize

In 2006, the Singapore Prison Service donated an expendable sum of S$15,000 to establish three prizes for the best student in Psychology for each of the 2nd, 3rd and Honours years of study. In 2015, the Singapore Prison Service donated another expendable sum of S$23,000 to top up its gift and the name of the prize was changed from “Psychology Prize” to “Singapore Prison Service Psychology Prize”. Three cash prizes, valued at S$500 each, had been awarded to deserving students annually.
In 2018, the donor would like to increase the prize quantum of each cash prize from S$500 to S$1,000.  The donor has also agreed to make a gift top-up of S$21,600 to the current fund balance to support funding of the 3 prizes until AY2030-31.

Three cash prizes, valued at S$1,000 each, will be awarded annually as follows:

  1. Subject to Rule 3 below, the prizes will be awarded to the student with the highest Academic Year Subject Grade Point Average in Psychology in the Arts II and Arts III Examinations for the Bachelor degree in FASS and the Honours Examination for the degree of Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours). In case of a tie, the number of A+, A and A- obtained and the overall performance in the subject to date will be considered.
  2. The prizes will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners..
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. The gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulations.

 

Singapore Psychiatric Association Book Prize

Donated in 1994 by the Singapore Psychiatric Association, the Cash Prize valued at $300 is awarded to the candidate with the best overall performance in the Final Examination for the degree of Master of Medicine (Psychiatry).
Subject to there being a candidate of sufficient merit, the award will be made by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.

 

Singapore Sawmillers' Association Gold Medal

A capital sum of $3,500 has been donated by the Singapore Sawmillers' Association, the proceeds of which will be used to provide for the award of a gold medal in 1974 and subsequent years.

  1. The medal will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies, on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners, to a candidate obtaining First Class Honours in Botany in the B.Sc. Honours Examination.
  2. If, in any year, two or more candidates qualify for the award, the Board of Undergraduate Studies may, subject to funds being available, make an award to each of the candidates concerned.

 

Singapore Society for Microbiology and Biotechnology Medal and Prize

Donated in 1985 by the Singapore Society for Microbiology, the medal and cash prize are awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $10,000 to the second best Honours student for Microbiology in the B.Sc. Honours Examination.
After a change of name to Singapore Society for Microbiology and Biotechnology, the Society in 2004 decided the award should be named Singapore Society for Microbiology and Biotechnology Medal and Prize.

  1. The award will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners.
  2. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  3. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Singapore Society of Anaesthesiologists Medal

Donated in 1991 by the Singapore Society of Anaesthesiologists, a gold medal is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000. The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 4 below, the medal is awarded to the most outstanding candidate in his/her first attempt of the Part B Examination for the degree of Master of Medicine (Anaesthesiology).
  2. The candidate must not possess another graduate specialization degree or fellowship in Anaesthesiology.
  3. The award will be made by the Board of Graduate Studies or its nominee.
  4. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically NUS Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Singapore Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Prize

The Singapore Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology offers a cash prize of $150 to be awarded to the best student in Life Sciences with concentration in Biomedical Science or Molecular and Cell Biology in the Examination for the degree of Bachelor of Science with Honours. The student must have submitted an Honours thesis based on work done in the Department of Biochemistry.
The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 2 below, the prize will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  2. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  3. In the event of there being more than one candidate of equal merit, the prize will be given to the student with the better performance in their final year research project.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

SIS Sugar Prizes

Two prizes, originally valued at $50 each, have been donated by Mr Tan Puay Hee to award the two best students in the First Year of the B.Sc. course. In 2011, SIS '88 Pte Ltd donated an additional $7,647.72 to augment the existing capital sum to increase the value of the prize to $200.
The cash prizes are governed by the following conditions:

  1. The prizes will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners for the Science I Examination for the degree of Bachelor of Science.
  2. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  3. If the first prize winner has offered Pure Mathematics and Applied Mathematics as two of the subjects in the Science I Examination for the degree of Bachelor of Science, the second prize winner shall be selected from among candidates who have not offered both these subjects for the examination.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

SISV Gold Medals

Donated in 1993 by the Singapore Institute of Surveyors & Valuers (SISV), two gold medals are awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $30,000. In 2002, it was proposed to establish another award, and an amount of $15,000 was donated in 2003.

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the medals will be awarded annually:
    1. one (1) to the student with the highest overall marks for the complete course of study and at least an Honours (Distinction) for BSc (Project and Facilities Management) [BSc (PFM)] or BEng (Infrastructure and Project Management) [BEng (IPM)] from the Department of the Built Environment, in the College of Design and Engineering;
    2. one (1) to the best student with the highest average weighted marks for the complete course of study and at least an Honours (Distinction) for BSc (Real Estate) in the School of Business
  2. The awards will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies or its nominee.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

SISV Gold Medal for M.Sc. (Project Management)

Donated in 1996 by the Singapore Institute of Surveyors and Valuers (SISV), the medal is awarded from the income of a capital sum of $15,000 to the best graduate in M.Sc. (Project Management).

  1. Subject to rule 2 below, the gold medal is awarded to the overall best student successfully completing the course leading to the degree of Master of Science (Project Management). The medal will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  2. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  3. In the event of there being more than one candidate of equal merit, the Board of Examiners will take into consideration the performance of the candidates during the period of candidature in addition to their examination results.

 

SLA Geospatial Medal and Prize

The SLA Geospatial Medal and Prize is awarded from an expendable donation of S$15,000 from the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) in 2015. The prize will be given out starting from AY2014-15.

The prize will be awarded annually as follows:

  1. Subject to rule 4 below, a gold medal and cash prize of S$1,500 less the value of the gold medal will be awarded to a graduating student in Minor in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) programme who has:
    1. obtained at least an Honours (Distinction); and
    2. completed the requirements in the Minor in GIS programme; and
    3. achieved the highest average score from the three GIS courses:
      1. GE2215 Introduction to Geographic Information Systems
      2. GE3238 GIS Design and Practices
      3. GE3252 Cartography and Geovisualisation or GE2227 Cartography and Visualisation or GE3216 Applications of GIS and Remote Sensing [If the student takes more than one course in point iii(c), the higher score course among (c) will be used in calculation with (a) GE2215 and (b) GE3238.]; and
    4. achieved the highest GPA score if there is a tie in the highest average score for the three courses from point iii above.
  2. The award will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. In making a recommendation to the Board of Undergraduate Studies, the Board of Examiners will also take into consideration the candidate's ability to apply and use geospatial knowledge based on feedback from the lecturers of the 3 core courses in the Minor in GIS programme.
  4. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

SLA Medal and Prize

Singapore Land Authority (SLA) is a statutory board with the Ministry of Law. Its mission is to optimise land resources for the economic and social development of Singapore. SLA is responsible for the direct management of some 14,000 hectares of State land and about 5,000 buildings. It is also in charge of land sales, leases, acquisitions and allocation, developing and marketing land-related information and maintaining the national land information database through digitised land information services.

SLA is also the national land registration authority for property transactions, and the issuance and guarantee of land titles in Singapore. It also manages and maintains the national land survey system, including the defining of boundaries or legal limits of properties based on a coordinated cadastre survey system. In the area of spatial information, SLA is responsible for the management of a land data repository and data exchange among public agencies and is a key agency in a whole-of-government effort to establish a national spatial data infrastructure.

Donated in 2011 with an expendable sum of S$15,000, the SLA Medal and Prize is awarded to an undergraduate completing the final year studies in the Department of Real Estate.
The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3, a medal and prize will be awarded to a graduating student in Bachelor of Science (Real Estate) programme who has:
    1. obtained at least an Honours (Distinction); and
    2. achieved the highest mark for RE4808 Urban Challenges and Policies;
  2. The award will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulations, as amended.

 

SNIC Gold Medal

Presented in 1974 by the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry, the medal is awarded to the best student in Chemistry or Applied Chemistry who has passed the examination for the degree of Bachelor of Science with Honours. In 1998, the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry donated an additional medal for the best student in Applied Chemistry who has passed the examination for the degree of Bachelor of Applied Science with Honours.
In 2016, the award for the Applied Chemistry was removed and a new University-level award, SNIC Medal, was established for the second best student in Chemistry who has passed the examination for the degree of Bachelor of Science with Honours.
The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the gold medal is awarded to the best student in Chemistry who has passed the examination for the degree of Bachelor of Science with Honours.
  2. The award will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. In the event of there being more than one candidate of equal merit for each of the award, the Board of Examiners will take into consideration the performance of the candidates in the relevant subject throughout their courses of study for the respective degree.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

SNIC Medal

In 1998, the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry donated an additional medal for an existing University-level award, SNIC Gold Medal, to award the best student in Applied Chemistry who has passed the examination for the degree of Bachelor of Applied Science with Honours.
In 2016, the award was replaced with a silver medal for the second best student in Chemistry who has passed the examination for the degree of Bachelor of Science with Honours.
The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. The award will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners.
  2. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  3. In the event of there being more than one candidate of equal merit for each of the award, the Board of Examiners will take into consideration the performance of the candidates in the relevant subject throughout their courses of study for the respective degree.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Society of Endodontists, Singapore Medal and Prize

Donated by the Society of Endodontists, Singapore in 2006, a medal and prize is awarded annually from the proceeds of a capital sum of $30,000.
The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 5 below, a gold medal and cash prize valued at $1000 cash prize will be awarded to the best student who has obtained an 'A' grade in Endodontics in the Final M.D.S. Examination.
  2. The award will be made by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of a Selection Committee comprising the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry as Chairman, Director (DGDS) and Programme Director (Endodontics).
  3. A representative of the society will be present at the selection meeting for consensus on the decision on the award. However, in the event that the donor's representative is unable to attend the meeting, there will be no delay to the selection of a winner.
  4. In the event that no student is eligible for award of a medal, a cash prize of value not more than $100 may be awarded to the best student subject to the satisfaction of the Selection Committee.
  5. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  6. In the event of there being more than one candidate of equal merit, the Selection Committee will take into consideration the performance of the candidates during the year as well as their examination results.
  7. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Society of Infectious Disease (Singapore) Prize

In 2022, the Society of Infectious Disease (Singapore) has offered a non-endowed gift of $15,000 to Duke-NUS Medical School to establish an annual achievement award to recognise our Doctor of Medicine (MD) graduates who have demonstrated excellence in research related to Infectious Diseases.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, a cash prize of $1,000 and a certificate will be awarded annually to a graduating MD student who demonstrates excellence in research related to Infectious Disease.
  2. The Duke-NUS Research & Scholarship Committee will nominate up to three candidates for the prize based on the external and expert review of the students’ research theses. The Duke-NUS Student Awards Selection Committee will review the nominations and select a single winner. Only a single winner can be chosen; there can be no tie.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. If no suitable awardee is identified, the funds available will be carried forward to provide for prizes in subsequent years.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Society of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery, Singapore Prize

Donated in 1996 by the Society of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery, Singapore Prize, the cash prize is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, a cash prize of $1000 will be awarded to the fourth year medical student with the best performance in Otolaryngology, a subject offered in the fourth year of the course for the degrees of M.B.,B.S. The student with the best performance will be determined as follows:
    1. The three highest scoring students in each of the four Otolaryngology clinical posting blocs will be invited to participate in a competition conducted by the Department of Otolaryngology.
    2. The prize will be awarded to the winner of the competition.
  2. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies or its nominee.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. In the event of there being more than one candidate of equal merit, the Board of Undergraduate Studies may award such additional prizes as may be appropriate, subject to funds being available for this purpose.

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, a gold medal and cash prize of $400 will be awarded to the most outstanding student in Sociology for the Honours Examination for the degree of Bachelor of Social Sciences.
  2. The award will be made by the Department on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Social Work Prize

In 2007, the Singapore Prison Service donated an expendable sum of S$15,000 to establish two cash prizes, valued at S$500 each, for the best student in Social Work for each of the 2nd and 3rd years of study.
In 2018, the donor the donor would like to increase the prize quantum of each cash prize from S$500 to S$1,000. In addition, the donor has agreed to make a gift top up of S$23,500 to the current fund balance to support the funding of the two prizes until AY2030-31.

Two cash prizes, valued at S$1,000 each will be awarded annually as follows:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the prizes will be awarded to the student with the highest Academic Year Subject Grade Point Average in Social Work in the Arts II and Arts III examinations for the Bachelor degree in FASS. In case of a tie, the number of A+, A and A- obtained and the overall performance in the subject to date will be considered.
  2. The prizes will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Southeast Asia Association for Dental Education (SEAADE) Medal

Donated in 2000 by the Southeast Asia Association for Dental Education, a gold medal is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000. In 2003, it was agreed that in the event that there is no student eligible for award of a gold medal, a cash prize may be awarded.
The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rules 4 below, the medal will be awarded to the best student in Endodontics in the Final Professional Examination for the degree of Bachelor of Dentistry.
  2. The medal will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. In the event that no student is eligible for award of a medal, a cash prize may be awarded to the student who obtains the highest mark and an 'A' grade for the subject.
  4. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Southeast Asian Geotechnical Society Medal

Donated in 1996 by the Organising Committee of the Eleventh Southeast Asian Geotechnical Conference (11 SEAGC), a gold medal is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000 to the student who has obtained the highest marks in Geotechnical Engineering courses and has also excelled in the Bachelor of Engineering (Civil Engineering) Course.

  1. The award will be made by Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  2. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.

 

SPH Gold Medal and Prize

Donated in 1988 by the Singapore Press Holding (SPH) Limited, the SPH Gold Medal and Prize is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $10,000.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 4 below, a gold medal and cash prize valued at $250 will be given to the best student successfully completing the course for the Master of Technology (Intelligent Systems).
  2. If the proceeds are insufficient to support the full award in any academic year, the prize quantum will be determined by the available funds, less the cost of the gold medal.
  3. The awards are made by the Board of Graduate Studies or its nominee.
  4. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  5. As there are up to two intakes for the course in an academic year and there will be a graduating batch at the end of each semester, up to two awards may be made in the same year.
  6. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Ssangyong Cement Medal and Prize

Donated in 1997 by Ssangyong Cement (Singapore) Limited, a gold medal and cash prize are awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000, to the best graduate in Concrete Technology related subjects in the examinations leading to the degree of Master of Science (Civil Engineering).

  1. Subject to rule 2 below, the medal and cash prize will be made annually by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  2. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  3. The cash prize will be paid from the balance of the proceeds available after the purchase of the gold medal.

 

ST Electronics Prize

Donated in 2010 by ST Electronics Limited, the prize is awarded from the sum of $15,000. The prize is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the cash prize valued at $300, shall be awarded to the top student of each cohort (year 1 to year 4) for the Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering degree programme.
  2. The Department with the concurrence of the Board of Examiners (BoE) shall select the four winners from each of the four (4) cohorts based on Academic Year Average Point (AYAP).
  3. No award shall be made if there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies (BUS) on the recommendation of the Selection Committee (BoE) of the Faculty and Department.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

ST Engineering Prize for Engineering Scholars (E-Scholars) Programme

ST Engineering Limited awards annually the ST Engineering Prize to recognise the Overall Best Performer in Engineering Scholars Programme (E-Scholars). The selection criteria will include GPA  and involvement in co-curricular activities. The winners shall be presented a cash prize valued at S$1,000. Award winners are selected in the following manner:

  1. The Faculty/School/Department (as defined in Clauses 2 and 3, NUS Statute 3) can select a winner from the group of graduating E-Scholars cohorts, who is an outstanding student having achieved academic excellence with excellent CCA participation throughout the year of studies.
  2. The E-Scholars Programme committee with the Board of Examiners (BoE) concurrence shall select the winner based on grade point average (GPA) and CCA records.
  3. The award will be endorsed by the Board of Undergraduate Studies (BUS) or its nominee.
  4. No award shall be made if there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically NUS Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

ST Engineering Prizes

Donated in 2001 by Singapore Technology Engineering, three prizes are awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $50,000. The prizes are governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the prizes will be awarded to the best three self-financing students who obtain the best three aggregate GPA in the compulsory courses for the degree of Master of Science (Financial Engineering).
  2. The prizes will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Standard Chartered Bank Prize

Donated in 2000 by the Standard Chartered Bank, a cash prize is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000. The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the cash prize will be awarded annually to the best student in the graduating cohort of the Master of Science (Industrial and Systems Engineering) programme, on the condition that he/she has not been awarded the NSTB Gold Medal.
  2. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. The prize, valued at $300 will be in the form of cash.

 

Straits Times Bronze Medal

A capital sum of $1,000 has been donated by the Straits Times Press (Singapore) Ltd, the proceeds of which will be used to provide for the award of a bronze medal in 1974 and subsequent years.
The medal will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies, on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners to the the top graduating student who has obtained a First or Second Class (Upper Division) Honours Degree Life Sciences in Area of Concentration of Biology, who is not awarded the Singapore Sawmillers' Association Gold Medal, the Wallace Prize or the Holttum Silver Medal.
This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Syed Ahmad Khan AMU Memorial Prize

In 2021, Aligarh Muslim University Alumni Association of Singapore (AMUAAS) donated an expendable sum of $15,000 to establish the Syed Ahmad Khan AMU Memorial Prize to encourage and recognize excellence in our USP graduating students.

The prize is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, cash prizes valued at $250 each will be awarded annually to two graduating students from the University Scholars Programme (USP), who have both demonstrated academic excellence and reflected a strong commitment or made a significant contribution to South Asian studies and culture. This is regardless of ethnicity or nationality of the candidates.
  2. Each winner will receive only a cash prize valued at $250.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. The prizes will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies or its nominee.
  5. If no award is made in any year, the unutilized amount will be added to the fund.
  6. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.
