Highly coveted, NUS Scholarships are awarded to high calibre individuals who demonstrate academic excellence, present excellent co-curricular activities record and exhibit outstanding leadership qualities. NUS Scholars are expected to contribute to the
NUS community while in NUS, and develop into dynamic global leaders capable of effecting positive societal change after they graduate.
There are two tiers of NUS Scholarships offered to prospective students:
- NUS Global Merit Scholarship
- NUS Merit Scholarship
Interested students should submit one scholarship application to be considered for both tiers of the NUS Scholarships.
- Singapore Citizens
- Have strong leadership qualities and potential
- Have good co-curricular activities record
- Possess outstanding Singapore-Cambridge GCE A Level, local Polytechnic Diploma, International Baccalaureate Diploma, NUS High School Diploma or equivalent qualifications
- Applying for admission to a full-time undergraduate degree programme at NUS. Limited scholarships are available for Dentistry, Medicine and Music
- Transfer applicants from local or overseas universities are not eligible
- Subsidised tuition fees (after MOE Tuition Grant subsidy)
- S$6,000 annual living allowance
- S$2,000 one-time computer allowance upon enrolment
- Guaranteed Student Exchange Programme (SEP) placement with one of NUS overseas partner universities for one semester (not applicable for NUS Medicine and Dentistry undergraduate programmes)
- Priority to be considered for on-campus accommodation for the first two years of undergraduate studies, as long as a complete hostel admission application is submitted by the second round of application window each year, and eligibility criteria for on-campus accommodation are met. This priority applies only to halls of residence, houses and student residences, and not to residential colleges
- Bond-free scholarship
- The NUS Merit Scholarship is awarded to outstanding freshmen pursuing a full-time undergraduate course at NUS, and is tenable for the normal candidature period.
- Scholarship recipients may not concurrently hold any other scholarship, fellowship, bursary, grant, award, allowance, waiver or free aid without prior approval from the University.
- The scholarship will be renewed every semester, provided the scholarship recipient maintains a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.50 or grades that are within the top 80% of their cohort for Dentistry, Law and Medicine scholarship recipients, and has good conduct.
- If the scholarship recipient decides to withdraw from the University and/or terminate the scholarship prematurely, the University reserves the right to impose repayment of all scholarship monies disbursed to the scholar.

- Applicants are required to submit the following:
- Upload supporting documents such as co-curricular activities record at the Applicant Portal.
- Submit one Referee Recommendation Form online (to be submitted separately by your Junior College/Polytechnic/High School Principal or Tutor).

- Applicants will be assessed for scholarship suitability based on the strength of their application and their performance in the scholarship selection interview(s), if shortlisted. This is with the exception of the following:
- NUS Scholarships applicants who have selected Dentistry/Medicine/Law as their top choices of courses, and have been shortlisted for the Dentistry/Medicine/Law admission tests/interviews, will be assessed for scholarship suitability based on their performance in Dentistry/Medicine/Law admission tests/interviews. Further scholarship selection interview(s) may be conducted for such applicants.
- NUS Scholarships applicants who have been offered admission to Dentistry/Medicine/Law in previous years, will be assessed for scholarship suitability for the scholarships based on their performance in the Dentistry/Medicine/Law admission tests/interviews in the year that they were offered admission. Further scholarship selection interview(s) may be conducted for such applicants.
- Applicants shortlisted for selection interview(s) will be informed via e-mail. Selection interview(s) will be conducted from late-March onwards, and applicants will be informed of their scholarship application outcomes by late-May. To be considered for the scholarships, please ensure that you are available to attend the interview(s). Your scholarship application will be withdrawn if you are unable to attend any scheduled selection interview(s) without valid reason(s).
- NUS reserves the right to not award any scholarship if there are no candidates of sufficient merit. The decision of the selection committee is final. Enquiries or disputes surrounding its decisions will not be entertained.
