Information for Returning National Servicemen (RNS)

The National University of Singapore (NUS) will reserve a place for you if you are serving full-time National Service (NS) in Singapore. You will only be able to enrol after completing your full-time NS obligation or if you are granted disruption by MINDEF.

Returning National Servicemen (RNS) with reserved places at NUS who are enrolling in the Academic Year 2025/2026 should refer to the following information before confirming their enrolment status online.

If you have accepted the NUS admission offer, the University will reserve a place for you while you are serving full-time NS in Singapore. You will enrol only after you have completed your full-time NS obligation or if MINDEF grants you a disruption.

If you accept a place in NUS Medicine in the year of your application, you will automatically be considered for the Local Medical Disruption Scheme (LMDS) by MINDEF. You do not need to submit a request to NUS for early enrolment.

To change your undergraduate degree programme while serving full-time NS, submit a new admission application during the application window for your desired programme. Please indicate only the programme you wish to be considered for in the new application.

If your new application is successful, your reserved undergraduate programme will be automatically withdrawn, regardless of whether you choose to accept the new offer.

If you do not wish to accept the new admission offer, it is recommended that you:

  1. Submit an appeal during the appeal period to reinstate your previous reserved programme. The appeal outcome will be subject to the approval of the University.
  2. Accept the new admission offer while you await the outcome of your appeal.

If your new application is unsuccessful, you will remain in your previously reserved undergraduate programme, provided you accepted it earlier.

You should submit an appeal during the appeal period to reinstate your previous reserved programme. You should accept the new offer while waiting for the appeal outcome.

Applicants who are serving full-time National Service (NS) in Singapore must complete their NS obligations before pursuing tertiary education. It is advised to apply for admission only after discharging any existing obligations, ensuring you are ready to commence classes in the year of your application.

If you are scheduled to enrol in August 2025, the University will invite you to complete the Confirmation of Enrolment exercise.

The Confirmation of Enrolment exercise will commence in November/December 2024, and you will receive a notification at your registered email address with NUS.

If you are able to enrol by the start of Academic Year 2025/2026, which begins on 4 August 2025, please confirm your enrolment status online via the Applicant Portal during the Confirmation of Enrolment exercise.

You will need to select one out of the four options available.

  1. I am able to enrol in Academic Year 2025/2026.
  2. I would like to apply for deferment to Academic Year 2026/2027.
  3. I would like to apply for disruption to enrol in Academic Year 2025/2026.
  4. I will not enrol into NUS.

If your ORD is on or after 4 August 2025 and you want to keep your reserved programme for the next academic year, you are required to complete the Request Form  and email it to the AskAdmissions along with the relevant documents.

If you wish to enrol in Academic Year 2025/2026 but cannot do so as your ORD is after 4 August 2025, you can apply for NS disruption. The Office of Admissions will send you a certifying letter within 10 working days after the Confirmation of Enrolment Exercise, which you can submit to MINDEF.

If you are requesting for an early enrolment after the Confirmation of Enrolment Exercise has ended, please complete the Request Form and email it to the AskAdmissions, along with the relevant documents confirming your approved disruption by MINDEF, SPF, or SCDF.

If you decide not to enrol, select the option “I will not enrol into NUS” during the Confirmation of Enrolment Exercise. No further action is required, and your decision will be acknowledged in the system.

Beyond the Confirmation of Enrolment Exercise, you can relinquish your reserved place by contacting the University through AskAdmissions with your full name, application number, reserved degree programme name, and scheduled enrolment year.

You can find the instructions on how to access the Applicant Portal in the email sent to you in November/December 2024.

Verify your personal particulars, reserved undergraduate programme, and ORD information. Any changes (except your name) must be updated before submitting your confirmation.

If your full name has changed, email the Office of Admissions through AskAdmissions with a copy of your deed poll, NRIC, or passport for verification and to update your NUS records.

Review your selections carefully on the confirmation form before clicking ‘Submit’. You will receive a system acknowledgment upon successful submission. Note that hard copy confirmation forms will not be accepted.

You can reach out to the University through AskAdmissions, providing your full name, application number, reserved degree programme name, and scheduled enrolment year. Please also include a copy of your NS service transcript.

If you already have a reserved place at NUS and wish to apply for NUS College, you will need to submit a new admissions application during the application window and indicate your interest in NUS College. To retain your reserved programme, ensure you specify the same programme in your new application. Alternatively, if you wish to be considered for a new undergraduate programme with NUS College, you may select different options in your application.

Please note that the NUS College curriculum and experience can be paired with over 60 undergraduate programmes across various colleges, faculties, and schools at NUS. However, this does not include Dentistry, Medicine, Music, Nursing, or Pharmacy. For more information, please refer to here.

The College of Humanities and Sciences, College of Design and Engineering, Business School and School of Computing follow a common curriculum, giving you the flexibility to select your preferred primary major by the end of your fourth active semester through the CourseReg@EduRec. There is no need to apply for a change of preferred major within the same programme (Business Administration, Common Computer Science Programmes, Engineering, or Humanities and Sciences).

RNS with reserved places at NUS, who are set to enrol as undergraduates in August 2025, may apply for Internal Blended Learning Online Courses (iBLOCs) or the Non-Graduating Programme during the Special Term .
