Digital tools are providing new data on what a city needs to be crisis-ready. A key lesson, which may be new to many people is that urban design plays an important role, right down to the length of streets. Dr Woo Jun Jie, Senior Research Fellow from the Department of Governance and Economy at the Institute of Policy Studies, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at NUS, opined that it is essential for the authorities to include urban design in planning for a post-COVID-19 world, and in anticipation of future infectious disease outbreaks.
