Speaker: Prof Ooi Eng Eong 23 Dec 2023

Like many human viruses that originated in animals, the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19, has adapted to life in humans. We will thus have to learn to live with it. Thankfully, with vaccination, COVID-19 has transformed from a highly fatal disease to a milder illness with a global case fatality rate below 0.1 per cent versus 2 per cent in 2020, says Prof Ooi Eng Eong, from the Emerging Infectious Diseases Programme, and Associate Dean (Early Research Career Development), Office of Academic Medicine, at the Duke-NUS Medical School. Prof Ooi is also a Professor at the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health at NUS.
